I am currently using dvd2svcd version 1.0.8 build 1 to back up my personal dvds. I have tried using newer versions, but after ending up with verious errors have gone back to this version. I have had a problem trying to back up concert dvds.... tried to back up Carlos Santanas Supernatural dvd and dvd2svcd says burn is completed. When I try to play it any parts of the dvd where there is high motion appear blocky. Has anyone else had this problem, and what can I do to fix. Dvd2svcd is the best personal backup software I have come across and I'm sure there is an easy fix. Should I stick with the 1.0.8 build 1 that I'm using? Thanks..first time poster...long time lurker:rolleyes:

Seriously good luck on this type of source. Your chances of getting a decent encode at SVCD bitrates is about one in a thousand.
My advice save your headaches for winable battles, return to the latest build and live to fight another day.
I am not being snooty. I have been where you are now and fought much longer and harder then I should have before I gave up.

The hardest videos to encode are concerts, porn and the Girls Gone Wild type videos. All have one thing in common, camera movement.

I had NO problems with any of concert DVD including Santana, like markrb said lots of camera movements and they are recorded on tapes not film. Using DVD2SVCD 1.0.9b3 I checked smartdeinterlace option, NTSC Force Film ON and CCE25 4 pass VBR, Image quality 25. It would take longer but never failed.

his problem is not that the conversion failed, it's just that the conversion didn't come out right (too blocky)...if the source isn't very good and there is a lot of camera movement encoding these types of movies can be very difficult if not impossible when working within SVCD specs...do yourself a favor and buy a DVD burner :)

Sorry hoozdapimp, I should not say "never failed" but instead "always worked without video being blocky even in high motion parts". Cheers

I tried ACDC "Stiff upper lip" concert and I must confirm that getting a good quality at SVCD bitrates seems impossible. As usual, each one defines "good quality" from his own standards, but the picture was definitely blocky when there was smoke on the scene and Angus Young running all over the place. I even tried advanced tweaking with CCE on local bitrate but no way.

So I fear you are left with 4 choices :
1. Lower your "good quality" criteria
2. Watch the concert with eyes half-shut (being drunk might also help)
3. Get a DVD burner
4. Buy another copy of the DVD ;)
