PAL DVDs to NTSC SVCDs conversion (including subtitles)

If you ever have done SVCDs from PAL DVDs and used those SVCDs in NTSC systems and you are lucky, you have only probably noticed some problems such as bad image or jerking video. This is due the differences between NTSC and PAL SVCD's standards. PAL SVCDs' frame size is 480x576 and the frame rate is 25.000 fps, while NTSC SVCDs' frame size is 480x480 with a frame rate of either 29.976.

On my DVD player, SVCD movies encoded as PAL look jerky and as if there where problems with the fields or interlacing. The movie looks like if it has been poorly resized by the player to fit the screen.

This little kit I made is trying to simplify the conversion from PAL sources to NTSC. The kit makes use of Q67 on the official DVD2SVCD Q&A to create an almost automated way to convert from PAL to NTSC plus, this kit also lets you use subtitles.

Also, check: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=41769 the batch files on this kit are based on the files posted in that thread by BizUser.

I hope this is useful for anybody. The problem it's really easy to solve, perhaps future releases of DVD2SVCD will have this option.

On the readme file included in the kit is explained the process.

The zip file was attached to this message, but somehow it doesn't seem to be working. You can also get the kit at my web page:

Just look for "PAL2NTSC Conversion Kit"
