View Full Version : Is it possible to split files while ripping & converting?

If I deselect all the chapters in the Select Chapters dialog, and manually select more than 1 chapter, is it possible to rip and convert each selected chapter as a seperate file, rather than 1 single file?

No it will combine the chapters...But if you want to do them one at a time, I think you already answered your question, or at least that is how I would try, If you don't want the file size to be 800mbs, change the cd size to whatever you want, and it should make a file for you...

What about if you rip each chapter to a different directory and then use batch mode?
You would have to manually rip each one, but you would then use batch mode to convert them seperately.

thanks markrb, help a lot and it's "clear me"!

...i have a doubt:
if i encode (for example)a woodstock film.
if i select all chapters, i got 900mb(example not real)
but if i select one chapter and encode, than
another chapter and encode again...
(and i don't want all chapters, only the musics)..
and with this separated chapters(not all chapters),
the final size is a lot more than 900mb.(example not real)
i try this way a few weeks ago and left cos don't got
the final size encoding "one by one" chapters!

i try to explain in better way but i can't(sorry, poor english)

i can't "preview" the final size of one chapter cos
encoded one by one ,gives me a huge final megas.

what i'm doing wrong(or i'm not doing right)?

thank you again markrb!
:)

Markb, maybe you or someone who knows, could explain how the "batch mode" works, as it may very well suit my needs. I'm ripping more or less like jorel, music video dvd's. I don't want all the chapters, just the "songs/videos/music" I like. If I could use it in batch mode, then I could set it up to rip and convert overnight while I sleep. This way each chapte/video/song would be in it's own mpeg, and not a single gigantic file which then has to be split.

Sorry I have never used batch mode myself. I only know it in theory. I know that a search should help on this because it was explained a few days ago by another member.

The only thought I have on the filesize issue is to try ripping seperately and then treating it much the same way as a 2 sided DVD encode that is explained in the Q+A. There are potential issues with the method, but it's worth a try. The method is too long to rewrite here so just hit the Q+A for it.

under the bitrate tab, change the CD size to whatever you like...just type in the numbers...If you have four chapters, and you want them to fit on a CD, change the CD size to 200mbs...and encode each chapter, one at a time.

thank you badbert,:)
but remains my doubt:
if i encode 10 chapters with diferent times,
how can i divide the space in 1 cdr,if i don't know
how much Mb take any chapter?

waiting for break my doubt, thanks again!
ps:
excuse my poor english if i'm not clever!

You have to use a bitrate calculator to get the avg bitrate for this DVD (or just let DVD2SVCD make a run with all chapters together, wait until CCE starts, notice thie used bitrate and kill dvd2SVCD).
After this just instert this bitrate in the maxavg and minavg field. Now you can make all chapters alone and the size would be correct.

I do not want to sound harsh, but I cannot explain it any better.

The thing I am saying to try is to rip each chapter into a different directory and then treat it as if it's close to the same as a 2 sided DVD. There are step by step instructions in the Q+A for how to do this.

See if you can't get someone better with English to help you out. I am really poor at other languages and I can't explain it any better.

@jorel
Just set DVd to convert your 10 wanted chapter to one single SVCD. start DVD2SVCD and wait until the CCE-stage. Now you can read in the log the bitrate, which DVD2SVCD uses. Notice this bitrate. Let's say it was 1800. Now kill DDVD2SVCD vie TaskManager. Start DVD2SVCD again and just select the first chapter. Set the maxavg and the minavg to 1800, use min and max as you always do. In CD-Image-tab select 'don't make images'. Now select 'go' and 'rip only'. After ripping close DVD2SVCD and start it again. Now do the same to the second chapter (be sure to use another directory), third,forth... until you have done all ten.
Now go to your windows startmenu and klich to 'Run DVD2SVCD Batch File' in your DVD2SVCD-folder. After this you have ten MPG files with the correct size.
The even better method would be to do all ten chapters with one encode and split them afterwards with a tool like TMPGEnc, so the bitrate can be spread better over all parts of the movie.
