Could anyone tell me what is wrong.
After 1. pass encoding program doesn;t create log file to correct bitrate (error: correction impossible, can not open log file, e.c.)
and compress my film again in the same bitrate in 2. pass encoding. What is wrong ?? Pleaase help me ..
Thanks

post your GKnot log file. that way we can see what your settings are, etc etc.

Welcom to the forum, Xor2. Overacid is correct, the _Gknot.log file produced during the encoding can tell us a lot. But even without seeing the log file, these are the most common reason for your symptoms: DivX 5 is not installed or is not installed properly. Test by starting Virtual Dub, then use the Video...Compression command and check for DivX 5 in the list of codecs. If it's not there, perhaps you did not install both the rip pack and system pack for Gknot 0.27. There is an error in the AviSynth script created by Gknot and used as input to Vdub. Test by opening the .avs script file you saved in any .avi player, or in Vdub. If you get an error message with a line number, then there is an error in the script. If it fails to load at all, then AviSynth may not be installed. You may have run out of disk space during Vdub's execution. Vdub must be run for the first time manually, because the GUI pops up an additional window. If you didn't do this during the install, then Vdub won't run properly. You may have a hardware problem -- video encoding produces a lot of heat, and sometimes the application will fail if the PC is overclocked or does not have sufficient airflow or cooling.I hope this helps!

Hey! Thank you for your answer.
1. Divx 5 is installed properly because I see it in virtual dub as DIVX Pro 5.0.0.3 Codec
2. I have opened avs file, and there have not been any error. So It is good.
3. I have enough space on my disk :)
4. I don;t remember if I run Virtual Dub manually. Even if I Didn;t do it, will it be good If I do it now ???
5. Temperature of my procesor is only 50 C (I have got Duron 1,2GHz)
I did test of my dvd film again. I ripped only first one chapter (about 2: 30 min) to Directory: d:\Asterix i Obeliks\ and then I got 3 files: vts_0_1.ifo, vts_0_1_stream information.txt and vts_0_1.vob file.
Then I created Ac3 file using DVD2avi program to directory: d:\Asterix i Obeliks\dvd2avi and then I got: 2 files:
Projekt AC3 T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY -80ms.ac3, Projekt.d2v.
After this I set appropiate options in gordian knot (like in doom9 help ;)) and pressed Save&Decode button to directory:
d:\Asterix i Obeliks\Save&Encode\
and then I got Projekt.avs file and Projekt_GKnot.log file.
After all this, after 1. pass encoding an error occured again (I added jpg file with errors). I don;t really know where I make mistake ??
This is my Projekt_GKnot.log file:

1. Divx 5 is installed properly because I see it in virtual dub as DIVX Pro 5.0.0.3 Codec
This is the problem.
You can't use 5.0.3 with GKnot, you should use 5.0.1 - 5.0.2 (or encode manually in VDub if you want to use 5.0.3 / or encode with divx5enc)
Cheers

Ah apparently thats my problem as well then and not good news. Is there a soon anticipated update for 03 <crosses fingers>? I get the same "cant find/open log" mssg when I do encoding now as well. I really am used to gknot now and dsont want to have to switch if possible.

Hmmm, I reinstall duivx to 5.0.2 version. And it's good. GKnot opens log file, but ...
1. To test these operations I ripped one chapter from dvd (2 min and 30 sec) As I said.
And Now in the first encoding I see that projected file size is ONLY80 KB !!! (so this file is i think too small) and during sec proces I got about 55 Mb !! (So I Think this is to much). After all that I got result file with music: 65 MB !!!! This is only 2,3 min ???? Why is this file sa big ????
Thanks :)

Hi-
The first pass .avi is some kind of a dummy file that can't be played. Don't worry about that. As for your second pass file size-did you set the file size-bitrate you wanted? You were encoding only a short piece of video. If you left the file size at the default 700 MB, then what you got, in effect, was a constant quant 2 encoding. Why don't you do the second pass over again with the total file size set to around 40 MB and see if it gets the size you want.
I agree that 65 MB is a lot for 2 min 30 sec, but if it's at a high resolution, and there's a lot of movement or noise, then it's not out of line.

Hi
Ok, Now I Understand it :)) And Everythink works good :)
I have only one more question.
If I don't want to add subtitles to be connected with the film, how can i write them to separately text file with times where should be display during playing film. Thsnks]
P.S. Btw, should I create new thread with this question ?? :))

Hi-
For the sub question. there's no need for another thread. If you want separate subs, then you have to perform OCR, using either SubRip (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/SubRip_1.15.exe) or VobSub followed by SubResynch (both of which come with GKnot). Here's Doom9's SubRip Guide (http://www.doom9.org/subtitle_guide.htm).
To display them you need DirectVobSub installed. It comes with GKnot, but I don't think it's installed by default (I could be wrong on that). So you have to get VobSub (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/VobSub_2.23.exe), and then do a custom install to make sure you install DirectVobSub. Then, if you have ripped your subs to SSA or SRT format, and named them the same as the movie (like movie.avi and movie.srt), when you start the movie, a curved green arrow appears in your Sys Tray to show you they're working.
