Although I browsed a lot through these forums and found a few similar simptoms, I can't find an answer to my problem:

Yesterday I was able to connect a friend's laptop to my TV (a Grundig Xentia 72cm). The picture no matter what I tried was B&W.

This TV model is less than 1 year old and it accepts S-Video input.
I live in Europe. My TV is PAL.
I'm connecting it through the laptops S-Video port.
The picture was B&W and revealed some periodic unfocus for about a split second every 2 seconds. I managed to change the the BIOS from NTSC to PAL and the unfocus disappeared. Picture is still B&W.
The cable is a Profigold S-VHS to S-VHS. This the same as S-Video, right?

Where could be the problem?

Enter the configuration Menu of your TV and set the SCART jack you're using to S-Video. Sounds like your TV expects a composite signal as input at the moment.

I'm not using any SCART IN jack in the TV. Should I?

The TV has a S-Video IN so that is the jack I'm using.
I will try again to change the properties of the Inputs.
