View Full Version : Squeezing extras so as to not lose qual. on main movie using DVD2One?

Hi All,

Quick question, I know this has been discussed on this forum, but not in too much detail.

Is there a way I can re-encode the extras(using TMPGEnc or CCE) down considerably and then based on this new version of significanly smaller extras, I can choose a *much* smaller pad for DVD2One(padded using MakeItEasy)...That way I do not lose too much in quality.

Now one way is to squeeze the extras seperately by treating the extras as the main movie(aspect discussed in the MakeitEasy thread)...However, if you have more than two or more title set VOB's for the extras, then it becomes a tedious process on doing this MakeItEasy and DVD2One process (one time each for every single title set of the extras).

Is there a way where I simply choose a very low bit rate re-encoding on the extras(since I am not that particular on the quality of the extras) and then squeeze the main movie using MakeitEasy and DVD2One and thereby lose lesser in the transcoding process of the movie...AND at the same time be able to incorporate these newly re-encoded VOB's (that I may create brand new and individualy by each title using something as simple as IfoEdit)..

My big concern is that -- Now that I have these newly created smaller VOB's created from scratch for the extras -- What sort of IFO file editing on the original disc IFO's would I have to do to incorporate them back into the final single disc...I doubt that all I have to do is rename each of these VOB's I just created(of the extras) to the correct name(since each time I create a seperate title set for a extra, i will have a VTS1 name and I will rename it to VTS2 or whatever was the right number of the title in the original titleset)...Would I need to edit the IFO files of the original disc as well or a simple replacement of the larger VOB's with smaller VOB's will do?

I know i have rambled somewhat on this question, but I hope I got my basic concern across...I basically want to compress the extras considerably thereby allowing more space for DVD2One to transcode the main movie...

Thanks
Rajiv

Yes, it's possible whenever the new version of dvd2one is release. Combine with makeiteasy and dvd2one's new size option, it can be done.

Example of a 2000mb extra.
Have makeiteasy pad it to 4000 to double it. Then run dvd2one hand have it size down to 1000mb (instead of the 4.38, assuming any size is available in the new version).
