Yep i can hear you all now wtf are you lol.
Well iv'e only been doing dvd-r burning now for 3 months and unfortunately back then there was no dvd2one programs , you had to do it the hard way and when i say hard way i mean you had a very steep learning cure of quite a few programs.
Dvd decrypter , dvd2avi , vfapi ,cce ,ifoedit , maestro or scenarist .
Nowadays you can just use dvd decrypter or smartripper and dvd2one which is so much easier.
A lot of people will say dvd2one is good but the quailty is better with tmpeg or cce " it probably is but i cant tell " but if your just going to watch it on your tv i say use dvd2one " unless you watch tv from less than 2 feet away " because i have done dvd's both ways " cce and dvd2one " i cant really tell the difference from that distance and i suspect most of you wont either.
DvD2one is definately the tool for beginners as you get good results in a very quick way without the steep learning curve and reading a hell of a lot of guides.
If your not happy with the quality then you have a long road ahead of you learning the basics of re-encoding and authoring but it is rewarding as you can fully back up a dvd as it was meant to be.
Cheers :
