Aspect ration conversion!!!!

Want to conver a movie which is in 4:3 AR to 16:9, is it possible???. When i play the vob in windvd/pdvd, its played as 4:3, but when i checked the vob with ifoedit/vobedit, i see something like
16:9 pan scan and 4:3. Now is this vob hving both 16:9 and 4:3???

when i open the vob in dvd2avi, it shown as 4:3, how do get 16:9..

16:9 and 4:3 are the pixel aspect ratios; they have nothing to do with the AR of the actual video/film (1.33, 1.85, 2.39, etc). 4:3 is setup for standard TVs; 16:9 is for widescreen TVs, and the image is stretched to a 16:9 AR on playback (16:9 is an anamoprhic transfer, meaning the video is compressed horizontially ~~~> thus why things look squished before put into the proper DAR).

Read up on this. If you use a Display Aspect Ratio (DAR) of 16:9 on a video that is of 4:3 AR, the video will look distorted. You can't just go around changing the AR, mainly b/c you won't gain anything. You can crop the video into your desired AR, but you're really just getting rid of part of the frame and not gaining anything.

However, if you think the DVD was not mastered correctly, and it should be 16:9 (not likely), you can use IfoEdit to change the *.ifo to display the video @ 16:9.

Your question is in the wrong forum, as it has nothing to do with DivX, rather, it has to do with .vob stream demuxing ... so I'm moving it to the Decrypting forum, as that's probably the best place for the question.

AFAIK, it's possible to have 16:9 and 4:3 PGCs in the same .vob stream. If your decryption tool is IFO parsing, you need only select the proper angle of the proper PGC. For example, you can use DVD DeCrypter in IFO mode, or SmartRipper in Movie mode, and merely select the appropriate PGC.
