I'm trying to backup my copy of the man w/ the golden gun. I ripped the vobs with a 16:9 ratio and viewed them with windvd and they came out in fullscreen. Is this normal?

Thx

Hi-

You were just playing the vob files? Then yes, that's normal. They don't get resized the way they would if you were playing the DVD. Those old Bond movies are anamorphic widescreen (16:9). Didn't everybody look kind of skinny? Just carry on with the conversion and you should be OK in the end.

Hi,

Well I went thru the whole process and the rip still came out in full screen. Unfortuntely, I deleted the logfile so I can't post that. Are there any things I could try the next time so this comes out ok.

Thx

Hi-

According to both IMDB (http://us.imdb.com/DVD?0071807) and Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/dvd/B00004RG63/tech-info/102-0904957-4836168) (which was the one I checked earlier), there's only the Anamorphic Widescreen DVD (16:9). In addition, the reviews of the DVD that I checked also mention it as being Anamorphic Widescreen.

So, my guess is that you encoded it improperly. I think you should have done it as 16:9 encoded as 4:3. One easy way to find out if it's 4:3 or 16:9 is to run it briefly through DVD2AVI. If I'm right, in your SVCD of it, the people should look stretched, and the round things should be ovals.

Without the log there is no way of knowing how you encoded it.
If you accidently did it as 4:3 no borders encode as 4:3 then you will experience your problem.

Make sure that the rip is 16:9 by using DVD2AVI like manono said and also make sure you encode it as 16:9 add borders encode as 4:3.

Hey Mark-

I just got firsthand evidence of why you guys down here always sound like broken records. "Post the logfile." "Post the logfile." It saves all that guessing I was just doing. And guesses are often wrong. You gotta have the evidence.

All you guys with these AR Problems:
READ THE FAQ.
POST THE LOGFILE.:)
Keep up the good work Mark (and UDBZ and hdp).

Good luck with the next try BW5150.

Thx guy for the advice.

I seem to have found the solution. I loaded up dvd2avi as manono suggested and it looked ok with the 16:9 ratio. I'm going to go ahead and encode using tmpeg and see how it comes out. Hopefully it will come out ok since the video was in lettebox in dvd2avi.

Thx for the help

Oh no the record isn't broken. That is the whole record. :)
