View Full Version : Sopranos Season 1 causing major problems right off the bat!

I have searched the forums high and low, but can't find anything on converting Sopranos Season 1 disk 1 to dvd-r. I would call myself a veteran of the multi PGC using Trilight's guide. I did all of the Band of Brothers with that method, and Sex and the City and more. Now I'm trying Sopranos. First things first, I rip all files to the HD, then I run it through IFOUpdate to create the chapter files. Well, here is my problem. It says they are all dummy PCG's and won't write anything to file. Seems to me that's a problem.
I plan on keeping the entire disk in tact, but I am going to transcode just the main episodes. Hopefully I won't lose too much quality given that I'm trying to stick almost 4 hours of episodes onto 4.37GB.
Nevertheless, can anyone give advice as to whether or not IFOUpdate will even be able to complete the job and re-assemble everything back together after I have transcoded? Can you also address the chapter issue? Thanx!

Yes, I'm using the latest version of 0.67 and I made sure that everything was ticked, including Maestro multi-PGC. I assume that I could create the file manually myself, but it seems to me that the author of the dvd have gone out of their way to make it difficult to reproduce this cd. Can anyone share their experience of reproducing any of the Sopranos dvd's to one single dvd-r?

It may bit a bit longer but you could extract all of the vob-ids from the vts set using vobedit and then create the title again in scenarist from re-encoded vobs. There's no problems with subtitles as subrip allows you to work on vobs as well as from the ifo. I assume that if you create it that way that ifoupdate will work as you will have created the pgc and chapters using a combination of chapterXtractor and dropping the dummy vobs(I assume that by dummy you mean those typically 0.12 secs long) in to place. I used this method for a long time before the appearence of ifoupdate (I had to manually copy the cell info from the newly authored file to the old one - so atleast you'll be saved that) and although it takes longer it seems pretty fool proof.

I have had this mentioned to me in relation to the R2 release of Windtalkers.. and I've had it myself on an R1 title...
I ignored the info relating to the pGC's being dummys... and tried a manual entry of the chapter values that were listed as dummy... everything worked fine on reintegration...
I didn'tIFOUpdate to re-integrate... as I reauthed by VOB-ID to make sure the structure matched.. I used IFOEdit VOB Extras to scan and update the nav info...
I think it's might be a bug in 0.67... as previous versions save the info out np.. and don't list the pgc as dummy
for my R1 title there are 57 small vobsets....IFOUpdate 0.65 saves out the following:
Chapter assignment information for DVDMaestro Playlists:
- Playlist #1 (PGC #1); [VOB Sector: 0]
- 00:00:00:00
- 00:00:21:06
Any unlisted PGCs have been determined to be nulls (dummys)
and will remain intact in the original file.
IFOUpdate 0.67 saves only this:
Chapter assignment information for DVDMaestro Playlists:
Any unlisted PGCs have been determined to be nulls (dummys)
and will remain intact in the original file.
a bug of some kind ???

hmmmm, that sounds very interesting!! I don't know my way around IFO's well enough to use IFOEdit to put it back together. I honestly purely rely on IFOUpdate. But my file did turn out to be the same as yours, so I am very eager to try it. Only problem is, I can't find an old copy of IFOUpdate 0.65. Any ideas where I can get it to try this out??? Thanx!
