I am struggling with this one..

I have been using the program for long time with few problems. Including backing up dvds and archiving hi8 home movies.

Have done a few avi2svcd with no problems until this one. If I use 2pass vbr cce dies at 27% (actual frame varies a bit but is not a scene transition frame or anything like that)

If I use CBR it works just fine BUT... if it is targeting 3 760meg disks the last one is always ways off ~400-500 meg causing failure to make disk image.

I have made MANY, MANY, MANY attempts with various disk size and min.max, maxavg bit rate to no avail.

Any help would be, GREATLY appriciated by me, and my poor AMD. (it rhymes)

I know it is a pain going through all of this but I am stumped.

Lst attempt resulted in

Encoded_Video_CCE_NTSC.mpv being 2,531,662 KB

bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg,bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg
being 751,588 KB

while bbMPEG_Muxed_File02.mpg was 1,262,566 KB

Below is my most recent CBR attempt with 740Meg CD asked for.

Video is 106.9 minutes long
bitrates selected: max 2530, min 300, max avg 2530
disk setting, 0-40 use 1 disk, with 40 minute increments using another disk.

PS.

In between the MANY, MANY, MANY attempts to get this avi to work. I have made dvd backups and smaller avi2svcd's.

Why do you have you file size set to 760mb? With 80 Minute CD's you can easily burn 806mb files.

If it's off only by 1mb then just change your cd setting by a meg or two smaller.

My earlier post needed correcting. CCE always with this avi encodes significantly larger file than can fit on specified disks (# & size)

I have tried bigger disks, but if I say target 3 800 meg disks it end up trying to make 3 disk images 800,800,1300

If I try for 3 740 meg disks, it trys for 740,740,1200

It is always ecnoding too big of a file for what it has been asked to fit on.

have you set "min average" ?
perhaps a bit lame, but i have to ask :)

Lets do some calculation:
Your movie is 751MB+751MB+1262MB=2764MB
2764/30*25=2303MB --> 767MB per disk, this would be ok.

Maybe there is some problem in recognizing the correct framerate of your movie?
You can solve the problem for _this_ movie by setting all your bitrates (max, min, maxavg) to 2100 and make CrashRecovery.

Have you tried putting 2530 for the min? When I do CBR, I put max 2530, min 2530, max avg 2530.

I nave not set the min average ever, but I have set the min, max, and max average at 2530 a number of times. This is how I had been encodeing with 2pass vbr. No effect on the current vbr freeze or my cbr overrun.

I see in another thread about setting cbv/vbr setting in bbmepg advanced tab, I will try that next, but it seems to me to be a CCE issue not a muxing/imaging issue as the encoded file is just too big. I have seen this bug reported in TMPGEnc but never in CCE.

What is the /30*25 for?

I asked for 3-740 MB images, that should be closer to 2220 total size shouldn't it, quite a bit smaller than the 2764 MB created?

If I set the min, max, maxavg to all the same it still overshoots the total file size. I have not used 2100, but I often have tried 2530 in both 2passvbr and cbr with same freeze on vbr and overshoot on cbr.

Unselected VBR from bbepg, remuxed, no change.

The 25 and 30 are for the framerate, PAL has 25 frames per second, NTSC about 30 fps, so if there is some error in recognizing the framerate, the calculation of the movie length also will be wrong, and so will be the calculation of the correct bitrate.
Of course the filesize will be too big if yous set all values to 2530, you have to set them to a lower value. If you don't want to use CBR, you can use 2(3)Pass VBR with minavg and maxavg 2100, min 1170 and max 2530. Try it, you will see _this_ movie will fit on your 3 discs.
