Hi All,

I just stumpled upon this program made by the big Pinnacle company.. no date set for release yet.. but what do you think?

http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage.asp?product_ID=1153&Langue_ID=10

Apparently it does DVD-9 to DVD-5 copies faster than real time?

Yup,

Do a search for InstantCopy and you'll see a lot of previous threads concerning this product. Appreciate your concern and thanks for letting us know though :D

Wow! Your first post since Sep 2002.

Release date will be February 17th.

A complete backup of "The Matrix" (PAL) was done in 3 hours (including ripping to HD first and burning the final result on DVD-R with 2x).

The behaviour of the copy was identical to the original (with all features). Quality was very good but there are still some bugs to handle.

Tested with the final release version 091 (dated February 5th).

Upss, forgot to say backup was done with an Athlon 1800+ ...

Pinnacle reacted to my test report :D
InstantCopy has been already released one hour ago.
Download Demo (14,5 MB):
http://www.vob.de/download/InstantCopy_Demo.zip
But at the moment it is slow as hell

And here is my detailed test report (german only at the moment but english translation is in progress; maybe ready on sunday/monday)
http://www.dvd-svcd-hilfe.de/forum/mb1/instantcopy7/instant.htm

Ah well the quality ... read my report :)
It is very good ... mostly near CCE quality but there are some problematical scenes (dark and very detailed f.e.)

what about the 5 min audio trial.

did oceans eleven with all sounds ,all subs, menu, perfect copy :)

sounds just plays the whole movie :)

OK ,the movie quality is a bit lower but if i had only the main movie and ONE audotrack it could be almost perfect.

Did the same for "Memento". It took 2,5h (disk to disk) plus 25min burning. "Perfect Copy" after three hours, a few macroblocks detected. Quality is comparable to dvd2one _without_ menus. And I have full AC§ sound for the whole movie too. I guess, the restriction is only on the startup-logo.

b.t.w. If you want to exclude single titles, create a file InstantCopy.reg with the following content and double-click on it.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VoB\CD Wizard\7.0\Copy]
"DVDMagic"=dword:00000001

(shamelessly stolen from mb1's german test report.

Theft, theft :D

I will put this reg-text to my lines for easier user-friendly handling. Thanks for that :p

hey mb1 and the rest,

i tried the demo version too. and it worked easily,i did band of brothers disc2.which had about 93% of original sizes for both episoded.quality was ok, could have improvement though, but sure it far better than dvd2one, and i love the keep menu and stuff.however, i kept both english and dutch subs but i noticed that it did not include the dutch subtitles i selected.i can select it, but it doesnt show up...only english is there :( and im sure i checked the right stream, cause there was only one dutch.too bad :( i will have to check whether its a program fault or that the original had the ifo screwed up already.....lets hope so.i will post my findings.and hey mb1, thanks for the great testing you do.

update: i just checked it in subrip....the dutch subs are in stream nr 15, which also is stream nr 15 in instantcopy.....so something has gone wrong there :(

what i dont like is that you have to write directly to dvd-r, or to an image....i wish you could make the video_ts folder....that way you could check whether the rip is ok (and not like mine missing subs!) otherwise youll end up with a bad disc! also then you can use your own burning tool if u like.

please pinaccle fix this subs thing and make it so its checkable BEFORE you burn it....

ok two thing are weird....

1. when you are in the part where you can select the streams and stuff...and where you can do the percentage thing, you cannot go over 4.32GB, this is weird cause a disc can hold 4.36GB

i tried to ignore it and make it go over 4.32...but the prog doesnt accept that and wont continue.

oh well i can live with that minor difference...

BUT

2. when i got the final output it was only 3.95GB! that is weird....first the 4.32GB thing, and then its not 4.32 but 3.95 now that difference IS too big! especially when you want to put all extras and stuff on it....you need to use ALL space available, not 3.95 out 4.36 that is a difference of about 400MB guys!

defenitely needs fixing for that.....maybe they should call Erwin, cause his dvd2one makes it fit exactly to 4.36GB.....but thats about the only good thing left about dvd2one since instantcopy came out.

the undersize issue was discussed in mb1's article (see the news on my site).. for short it has something to do with how InstantCopy calculates quality (dvd2one just constantly reduces the bitrate, InstantCopy reduces the bitrate in function of quality).. there's a safety buffer of 6% (if they'd want to be completely accurate they'd have to analyze the whole video stream, not just 15-30% of it which would obviously take even longer). The whole story can be seen on this page: http://www.dvd-svcd-hilfe.de/forum/mb1/instantcopy7/instant2.htm

yeah i know, but i dont care about the buffer....all i want is using my full disc.....even if it takes an hour more....only then i use every bit possible, which is needed to get the best quality possible.

Mind trying it on band of brothers disk 1? The episodes are inverted on that disk, it'd be interesting to see if the program can catch that and organize it properly in the final product ;).

There's a forum just for this Instant Copy program and DVD2One so I'm moving this thread over there.
