can i rip a ripped DVD off my HDD?

hi. i made the stupid mistake in ripping some movies onto my HDD using DVD decryptor, not kmnowing that dvd2svcd doesn't like foreign rips.

i'd just like to know whah happens if in dvdsvcd, in the rip tab, can't i just tell it to "rip" the IFO that's on my HDD and then it will sort it all out so DVD2SVCD will understand it better?

or if it needs to be from a DVD drive, can't i just load the Ifo and Vobs as they'd be on a dvd disk and use virtual daemon manager to create a virtual dvd for dvd2svcd to rip from?

am i making myself clear?

i havem't tried any of the above becuase i don't know the effects it wil have on my vobs and ifo file and i like this movie.

you should re-rip the dvd's if you wish to use them with dvd2svcd. you can try, but if there are any problems, you can't come asking for help before you re-rip them :)

Basically, ripping a DVD involves extracting the contents of the disc (which is encrypted) onto your hard drive. The problem is that rippers can rip them into slightly different formats, so by the time you have them on your hard drive there's nothing much you can do to correct it without re-ripping it.

DVD2SVCD tends to be the most compatible with internal rips (obviously) and vStrip, however it is known to work sometimes with other rippers (but should only be used as a last resort).

Just try to put the ifo into dvd2svcd. If it works, great. If not, you are just out of luck. :confused:

do not jump to conclusions my friend. the real copy of the DVD is at my other house and i need this film for the weekend.

i got it to work in the end, i was just curious.

Just load the ifo file from the folder on your harddrive. You only have to make sure that the output folder is different than the one you loaded the ifo file from.

Besides, we all own the dvd's of which we make backup, that's called fair use and is legal in most coutries. Nobody here is doing anything illegal at all, period.
