I'm building a computer and wondering whether I will get better performance from clocking it faster at slower memory, or if slower CPU and faster memory is better. I'm talking in terms of encoding to DivX from DVD source. Any help is appreciated.

Hello
I must say that I am against overclocking, but if you want to
do it, make sure you cool off your processor and memory, AMD
CPUs tend to overheat themselves pretty much, even without
overclocking.
Now, according to certain sources, you must overclock memory and
processor to avoid data corruption. I cannot certify the above
statement, all I can tell you it is that I have an Athlon XP 1900+
on a Dragon Lite Soyo motherboard and both memory and CPU are overclocked automatically when I tried to do it myself.
Good luck.

Go with the faster cpu... its been my experience with amd that overclocking the processor has more of an effect in comparison to say overclocking the memory. Most motherboards will allow you to overclock both (as was said above) but also many let you do it seperately as well. I personally see no problem with overclocking and can't understand why someone would be so 'against' it. You run the risk of damage BUT it is very minimal if you have the proper equipment (ie heatsink that is adequate). Enjoy.
