dvd2svcd--2dvdr?

Just a thought. Can dvd2svcd be updated to make 6 cds an then we can burn like 5 800 meg mpeg2 files to a dvd-r? I'm sure someone knows how to make the proper file order to tell the dvd player how to read an play it in order. I'm just thinking outloud. Seems like a easy solution to backin up a dvd to a dvd r when the orignal is 6or7 gig.

Converting from DVD to DVD-R is not completely possible with DVD2SVCD. You need other programs to finish it off. Read the advanced forum as there is already a thread on this.

Making a DVD with 5 or 6 mpg files will not work in most DVD players as once the DVD is detected the DVD player expects a DVD file format and structure. There are some, very few, exceptions. Most Apex players will play these in file mode. Basically they will show you a Windows type tree that you select the file you want to play from. However most players will refuse to play these.

BTW a DVD-R does not hold the same amount of info as one you buy already created. They actually hold half that. A DVD-R holds 4.38 GB's max.

I have not wondered about taking 5 700 meg CD image files and stringing them together. I just do not know why the 800 meg restriction could not be pulled out and the SVCD is created as one very large disk image file that could be burned to a 4.36 Gig DVD+R?
In the case of DVD2SVCD, the program does not care what media you are burning to does it?....so why not have the option to create a single large disk image instead of 2-3 700 meg cd images?

you can change the size of the disk manually by typing in 4600 or whatever you want for the disk size. you should have tried a search, there are tons of threads regarding using dvd2svcd for dvd-r.
