MicroDVD: any recent update?

Hi.


I would like to know if version above 1.2 exists or not? This one went out around May 2001 and doesn't support new format like Ogg in autorun modes. The website has not been updated for that long too.

The author said the 1.3 version will be a paying one but I can't even find any site that sell it. I wonder if it ever existed? I can't reach the author 'cause his e-mail is no longer valid. What a pain!!!

It's the best program I know to make autoruns. With MicroDVD you can make the same things that you have in your DVD. Such DivX looks definitively pro.

Or if you know a program that allow to do the same kind of autorun please let me know I'm highly interested.

MicroDVD 1.3 IS sold under a different name, it's the "Davideo DivX Player", part of "Davideo 2" by gdata (www.gdata.de)

BUT there is a problem, microDVD uses grf-files for multi-audio-movies, it cannot switch the streams itself like newer players (ZoomPlayer, Radlight, TCMP...), and those grf-files cannot be used outside of graphedit after:
-installing DX9
-installing XP SP1
-installing Longhorn :)

Actually, I'm trying to get my hands on V1.3, to see if it supports direct-audio-switching without grf-files like other players do, otherwise I will discontinue my mDVDit & restart with XCD&OGM & use Radlight (offering a mDVD-skin) for my 160 archieved microDVDs.

I will report back if new microDVD-player 1.3 is compatible with new M$-technology.

Locutus mailed me that commercial Davideo DivX player has the same problems with grf-files as old microDVD Player, so it's useless for WinXP after installation of SP1 or DX9, as well as for Longhorn users:p

Well, all I wanted to say is that DX9 & SP1 can be patched before their installation so you can continue to use microDVD Player in WinXP, but I have no doubts that DX9 will be integrated part of Longhorn, so you will not be able to use microDVDs in Windows Longhorn and any future Windows OS,

Raistlin2k: did you find whether 1.3 can manage with 2 audio streams or not? If you have no time and are able to attach some docs about this program, I would with pleasure spend my time to read it and see if we can expect something or not. I suppose docs are in html like the 1.2?

I've just visited the german site but no info is given on specifics things that this program can do.

Also I tried the GRF files of course (GraphEdit) but it didn't work and I was wondering why and you gave the solution: I'm under XP SP1.

For those interested, I found a solution to MicroDVD 1.2 manage 2 audio streams without any problem. You must have only one audio stream in the AVI and the other one is left outside. So when you play the AVI, only the english soundtrack for example will be play. To play the other one you have to indicate in your ini file where to find the file:

[MOVIE]
Directory=Video
AVIName=YOUR_MOVIE.avi

[LANGUAGES]

Directory=Video
MultipleAudioAVI=0
Primary=UK English
1=FR French
File=french.mp3

(In that example, both the AVI and the MP3 are in the same folder)

With that when you press the "L" key while watching your movie, MicroDVD will switch to the next audio stream immediately. I also tried that on a CD and it works great too.

The only problem is that guys must use your autorun to enjoy both audio streams or use a player (BSPlayer) that is able to load a second audio stream.

Now does anyone knows another program such MicroDVD that will allows to do DVD menus? I'm afraid a day we will have to definitively give up with MicroDVD and go back to poors launchers is very sad. If you have any clue or if someone could code such a program. :))

microDVD Player 1.3 = Davideo DivX Player.
Locutus, the author mailed me that there is no solution for the grf-problem, only way is your described way of a second file, but that's also really stupid because CD-drives have to jump around all time because of reading 2 files at the same time > SHORT LIFE.

That's why grf-support was added to microDVD Player. (or you can use the option to copy secondary audio-stream to HD before usage, but that's also doggy in my opinion :sly: )

SO, FOR ME microDVD is definitely dead, although I loved the menu-system.

The only comparable system offering menus even better than microDVD (because specs are closer to DVD-ones, so easier conversion;) ) IS the XCD-M, menu-system for upcoming XCDs, but it is not available yet, only specs are finished, written by me:) get them here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31282&perpage=20&highlight=XCD&pagenumber=4)

Yeah MicroDVD or Davideo DivX Player seem dead. I wonder why the author told you it's impossible to get rid of GRF files? Does its code so closed that he can't improved MicroDVD? Maybe he would have to write a lot of code only to implement this I presume so he doesn't want to bore himself for a handful of guys like us. hehe ;)

However when you say it's dead, I wonder. I often look at my movies on the HDD. Even if the movie is burnt on a CD, I copy it first on HDD to avoid the noise (small) of my DVD drive.

I will continue to use MicroDVD menus with one single audio Divx track. I think I'm going to give up with 2 tracks. I'll see.

Last but not the least: I've catch and read a little of your specs and I have 2 questions:

1) You speak about XCD mainly. But are people able to manage a menu with usuals RIP like DivX or XviD with MP3 or must they make Ogg absolutely? I should prefer a program that allow to go in several ways (AC3, Ogg, MP3, etc...).

2) When do you plan to code this program? We are ALL interested to test the successor of MicroDVD. :)))

XCD is open to all kind of codecs, vorbis as well as mp3 etc.

For now, you have to use the ogg-container (not the audio-codec), since using avi's is not very wise on a XCD (lack of backup-ability)

XCD is a bing project here on Doom9, I'm only the crazy guy who had the idea to add menu-capabilities to this project.

ATm, we have to wait for the backup-creator because without it XCDs are broken when the head of the file gets scatched. Toff already wrote a little tool that will translate a DVD-menu (out of the ifo) automatically to an XCD-menu, great guy, isn't he?

The playback-support on the other hand depends on the guys behing the player, namely TCMP & zoomPlayer, this will be the standard Players for XCD, I guess.

I'm actually working on my first release of XCDit, the successor of microDVDit, but it will be without menu-support for now, because there is no player supporting this ATM. XCD is still in file level, we have to reach CD-level (see specs) before we can continue talks about XCD-M.
