Divx 5 Nth pass question

If I want to do three passes with the new nth pass in divx 5, do I simply do the first pass, then the nth pass, and then another nth pass?

Yes!

everytime you do an nth pass the whole avi is saved to your hard drive. you might want to consider that whe3n calculating the disk space needed (note: the 1st pass will only need a few megabytes - 50 or so)
