placement subtitles

If searched this forum but could not find a good answer to this problem:
Converting an AVI (Divx, Xvid) with subtitles (Txt, or srt file) in NTSC (original format) it places the subtitles to low on the screen.
Is there a way to fix this? Changing the Ypos did not nothing for me.
I'm really glad that the subtitle feature is there and if there's no other way I live with it.

It would have been quicker just to toggle through the tabs in dvd2svcd:
