View Full Version : DV Codec playing hide & seek ?!?!

I have this problem once in my last computer, and I have it now.
When I try to encode DV video (AVI) in CCE or TMPGenc I got error messages:

"Couldn't find appropriate video codec for 'dvsd'" - CCE
"File xxxxx can not open or unsupported" - TMPGEnc

Why?!?! Just a few days ago I was able to do whatever I wanted...

I do I get to register the proper DV Codec?
How can I see registered DV Codecs?

(I'm using XP Professional).

PS- Windows Media Player plays it just fine

You probably have the MS DirectShow DV codec installed (that's why WMP plays it), but not a VfW (Video for Windows) DV codec. Install one of the many available DV codecs (Mainconcept, Canopus, Panasonic, Adaptec, ...), and you should be fine. There is an issue with Canopus using a different fourCC, though.

Right now I'm reading some posts in this forum speaking about it, but your explanation seems clearer to me.

I have Vegas Video 3.0c instaled on my computer and I'm using a trial of Vegas 4.0. Perhaps the instalation of Vegas 4.0 is the cause...
I'll try to uninstall it...
(Vegas, as you should know, uses MC Codec)

By the way: since I had a VFW codec (I have already encoded with CCE before), how can I re-register it?
The files should be at the computer somewhere... perhaps its enough just try to bring them registered again...

(I hate the new instalation processes, as I don't know what is being changed...)

I've installed MainConcept DV Codec (trial), but the problem stays almost the same.
CCE can read the AVI file but the picture is mostly large squares (noise).

In TMPGENc, the image is the same until I change the "Enviromental Setting" giving low priority to avisynth AVS files.

I wish I knew where in Windows I can change those kind of settings (or what program can do that...)
