In a miniDVD (DVD format in CD media) you can use all the features of the standard DVD, as ac3 sound, menus, subtitles, "true" navigation, etc

NOTE: I've writen this script to author miniDVDs, but it also can be used to author DVDs (There is a variable to choose between DVD and miniDVD)

I´ve been surprised, but many "new" and cheap DVD players are able to play miniDVDs. I have succesfully checked the following ones:

- LENCO D-204
- CYBERHOME 505 (hacked, unhacked I do not know...)
- YUKAI 560
- ABOSS DS-8319

Also, I've found a lot which are not be able to play them..
- THOMSON 4200
- THOMSON DTH-5200
- LG-3351
- PS2 (I´m not sure about the version I've tested)

This plugin is based in Autoit and uses IfoEdit 0.95 as authoring tool. It is my first script with Autoit, so probably it is not efficient and also could have many bugs. So, there is room for improvement ;-)

I have a main issue related with Audio Delay:
Currently I'm not sure about the direction of the delay adjustment
The value reported by dvd2svcd is usually negative and I use two options
- BeSweet with -ota( -d value_msecs ), value has the same sign than dvd2svcd reports
- BeSplit with -split ( value_secs ), value has the same sign than dvd2svcd reports
I really do not know if I have to change or not the sign. Any feedback will be very appreciated.

I still didn't test so much the script (I don't have much free time), so please be patient if it fails....

2.- WHAT IS IT
--------------

There are some players (the newest and cheapest ones) which are able
to play miniDVDs, that means DVDs in CD media, but, as far as I know,
there is not an automatic tool to generate them. The main advantage of
a miniDVD is that all DVD features are supported, including ac3 sound.

This tool is a plugin for DVD2SVCD, and allows to create a set
of miniDVDs automatically. It uses IfoEdit 0.95 for authoring

It also is valid to authoring DVDs, containing the movie only, with no extras

3.- HOW IT WORKS
----------------

This plugin, is actually an executable launched instead of VCDXBuild.

Also, a "fakebbmpeg" executable is provided, to avoid wasting time and
disc space in mpg muxing processes.

For audio processing, there are two choices, (selected with the executable)
- Runbesplit: With this exe, no recoding will be done, only delay adjustment.
- transcodeac3: Transcode the ac3 to the selected bitrate

4.- INSTALLATION & USAGE
------------------------

1) Create "mdvdauth" under your DVD2SVCD dir.
(e.g. "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\mdvdauth")

2) Extract all files to that directory.

3) Double-click mdvdauth.ini file and edit necessary settings:
Path to ifoedit 0.95
Path to dvd2svcd
Path to BeSweet 1.4
Path to BeSplit
mdvdauth: Variable to choose between dvd and minidvd

4) Launch DVD2SVCD, and follow the instructions:

- Audio tab:
A) If you do not want to convert audio, only delay adjustments
Select the same bit rate than the original one and select executable
..\DVD2SVCD\mdvdauth\runBeSplit.exe in BeSweet path
Trick: You can use audio stream 2 at 64 kbit/s. It will be ignired, but
the space will be taken in account by dvd2svcd, so selecting 384 in
audio stream 1, a space equivalent to 448 will be reserved to audio 1
B) Transcode ac3 (change bit rate and gain)
Select gain in dvd2svcd (in the case of autodetect, gainini will be used)
Select bitrate in one or both audio streams (MUST be higher than 224)
Select the executable
..\DVD2SVCD\mdvdauth\transcodeac3.exe in BeSweet path
Be aware of the gain bug in BeSweet/ac3enc

- bbmpeg tab
use executable ..\DVD2SVCD\mdvdauth\fakebbmpeg.bat
- bitrate tab
Select CDs of 685 MB (for 700 MB/80 min) (May be 690 will be more accurate)
Select CDs of 645 MB (for 650 MB/74 min) (May be 640 will be more accurate)
Select One CD of 4300 MB for DVDs (Not tested)
- CDImage
select VCXBuild but use executable
..\DVD2SVCD\mdvdauth\mdvdauth.exe in VCXbuild path


- When dvd2svcd launches Besweet, audio delay adjustments or transcoding+delay
will be done
- When dvd2svcd launches bbmpeg, some fake files will be generated
in few seconds.

- When dvd2svcd launches VCDXBuild, the DVD authoring process is started
using IfoEdit. Please note that VCDXBuild is launched once per any CD, but
mdvdauth do all the job when it is called with CD1 as parameter and exits
in all the other cases.

- After DVD authoring is finished, a new folder (DVD) in the movie directory
is created, containing :
DVDauthoring: A temporal folder and a ROOT folder containing the movie
miniDVDauthoring: ROOT folder, a temporal folder and four CD folders.
Not all CD folders are valid, only the number of selected CDs (bitrate tab)
contain the movie, the rest should be empty; at least, this is the
expected behavior;-).

It is highly recommended to use ImgTool to generate a DVD image. Then, mount it
with daemon-tools, test it with your favorite DVD player SW and burn it with
your burning tool (CD to CD copy)

5.- KNOWN ISSUES
----------------
Do not touch the keyboard or mouse during the authoring. Autoit waits
for some windows to be active or non-active

Audio Language: In the images, the language is not specified.

Audio Delay: Maximum delay supported between 999 msecs and -999 msecs
Also, In the case of BeSplit, I'm not sure if I am correcting
it in the right direction or if I am duplicating the delay.....

6.- FEATURES

- Original DVD or fixed chapters are supported. (Selected in CDImage tab)

I´ve done some tests more and no issues found, so here is the zip file

I am still unsure about a previous “random” behaviour in chapters on the final folders. Sometimes they are fully ok, sometimes fails only one CD, and other (rarely) both.
Seems that value 0 is not valid for Ifoedit, so I have removed it, but I’m not confident in this point.. May be something is not very inicialized, so I also set many values of Ifoedit.ini

Please read the readme.txt included in the file, there are some new remarks

I knew your proposal, but I’ve not tested it. I still have to test more the transcoding tools, it seems that the new ac3enc included in BeSweet1.5b13 (the one distributed by dvd2svcd) has lower gain than the one included in BeSweet1.4, but, do not take this in account, I only have tested it once...
BTW, I am using bsplay to test the final ac3, and I do not have the required ac3 HW on my computer, so tests are not so good...

After some tests in audio transcoding and delay adjustments, I think the plugging only works fine (taking in account gain issue) in the case of using BeSweet (transcodeac3) and negative or cero delay adjustments. Using runbesplit the delay is duplicated or simply nothing is compensated.

Well, I have the following problems:
A) BeSplit was initially designed to split audio streams, so it can compensate “positive” delays, but it cannot do nothing with negative ones, is it true?
i.e., the following command:
BeSplit.exe -core( -input <filein> -prefix <fileout> -type ac3 -ending ) -split( -2 )

Will produce the same output. Isn´t it?

B) Following your indications, I am changing to BeSweet (-payload) also for delay adjustment (and no transcoding). Well, I have as source one minute ac3 track. I am not sure about the command syntax (see logfiles) but I obtain good results in the case of negative and cero delay, but not in the case of positive delay. I am not able to reproduce the track neither with bsplayer nor DVDplayer.
So, I try another useful tool, BeSliced, and after that, I was able to reproduce it, but it seems no delay is included.

Hi all,

I've finished a more elaborated script. Tests are not completely finished, but may be someone would like to help me in the testing process, so here it is a new zip file

This is the changelog (included in readme.txt)

0.2.1 :
- Improvement: Change all mouse clicks for keyboard inputs. Using mouse coordinates results in a non portable script (it was depending on PC font size, PC display resolution ...)
- Improvement: Subtitles are supported. Extraction is done using VobEdit.
- Improvement: Original subpicture attributes (colours, etc) are copied. Even if aspect ratio is different from the original, a reference to the subpicture stream in the new aspect ratio PGC is included
- Improvement: Audio attributes are kept in the final CD images.
- Bug Fix: Delay correction is now OK. I’ve written a small program to add/cut ac3 frames (The same idea than ac3 delay corrector)

Add. tools: Two additional tools included, used in the process
- copyifoattr. Similar to IfoUpdate, only command line and less powerfull but customized for this application.
- delayac3. Similar to ac3 delay corrector, but only command line and ac3 format.

Sorry, extras are NOT supported.
For ripping, I use Smartripper (although it is not recommended in d2s guides), but I think using dvd2svcd ripper (vStrip) the plug also works fine. Please note subpictures are extracted from ripped VOBs, so they must be in the HardDisk.

Hi!

I tried your script.... I did not get an Encoded_audio*.ac3 file, I got an Extracted_audio*.ac3 file. After renaming extracted to encoded, I reran the SVCD creation stage and the utility worked fine.

Unfotunately it seems my XMS-750 (chinese no name DVD player) does not like MINI-DVD's, as it came back with "BAD DISK" when I tried to play a burned disk.. (The disk played fine in my PC.. PowerDVD played it ok)..

I'm wondering ... The DVD images you produce do not have a menu on them.. Would this be something that may confuse DVD players?? Do they have an instruction in the VTS file to jump to the first vob?? (Sorry I don't know the technicalities of DVD authoring)..

trying to work out why my DVD player doesn't like them, and whether they can be possibly made more "DVD compliant", if that's not an offensive suggestion.

Probably readme.txt is not clear enough: If you select a bit rate lower than 224 k and the input ac3 is a 5.1, audio is not processed at all (in both tracks, first and second). Could this be your problem?. Please check mdvdauth_log.txt; if this is the case, a trace like the following should be logged. If not, please post this part of your mdvdauth_log.txt and also tell me your audio settings.

A playable menu is an option in DVD standard. It is not needed to be fully standard. In fact, IfoEdit uses a Pre command to jump directly to Title.

Not offending at all. I am just a learner, not an expert, but the only thing, AFAIK, which is not standard in the miniDVD produced by this script (IfoEedit does all the job) is the resolution (if you have used dvd2svcd in "normal" mode); that means 480x576 pixels instead of one of the four officially supported. But, in my experience, this is not a problem in any settop able to play miniDVDs.
Looks like your settop does not support miniDVDs. In fact, I only can see other possibility, because, as you say, powerDVD plays it: If the miniDVD is not correctly burned, and sectors are not OK, PowerDVD could still be able to read it, and a settop cannot; but if you are using Coujo's Image Tools (Classic or Burning, whichever you want) this is not the case.

Only a very very very few dvd players support minidvd's (dvd format on cd's). As jsoto says in his initial post some of the new megacheap once does but in the past you should be more than lucky to find one that supported it. You can get some advice on which does support it on vcdhelp's homepage.

Actually... (blush) I just used nero to create a straight blank ISO, copied the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories and went with that.. is that not a proper way to "burn" a mini-dvd?

I am sure there are some threads taking about problems with nero, but currently search button is not working (at least for me).

Although in the past I tried to follow Derrows' guide to burn directly with Nero, I had no success (sure I've did something wrong, may be Nero's version), so I always use the following procedure, which also allows to test before burn:
a) Create an Image with Coujo's Classic Tool
b) Mount it with Daemon-tools
c) Test with powerDVD
d) Burn with Nero (CD to CD copy)

But, remember, there are few players able to play miniDVDs.

BTW, could you give me some feedback about the status of your audio problem?

Hi all,

I have done some tests with frame selection. As I said in other thread (Autoit problems under winXP (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50949) ), I’ve never used it before, but it is a very nice feature.

Unfortunately it is not so easy to manage this feature in mdvdauth, because it is possible to select two or three or even more clips. Audio is (obviously) also split in the selected number of files, so it should be taken into account.

So, at least for the moment, do not use frame selection with mdvdauth.

As I said in my first post, I've had NO success in a PS2. But there are some different models, and may be the mod chips change the default behaviour...
The PS2 I test is a SCPH-30004, without any mod chip.

Today i´ve tried out your plugin, but it doesn´t seem to work properly. At the point, IfoEdit ís closed, mdvdauth.exe stops and simply doesn´t continue. The root folder contains the correct video_ts folder, but the cdx folders are empty. I´ve tested it with just the first chapter of a DVD. Since my player supports miniDVDs it would be great to make it run. Here are the logs:

Another thing:
Your plugin comes with the file mdvdauth_cd.ini. I edited it and renamed it to mdvdauth.ini, but it didn´t work, because of the typo

: CopyVideoAttr=1 means copy video IFO attr. All other value means do not copy.

Instead of the ':' it should be ';'.
Also, i think, the line

IfoEditTitle=IfoEdit v0.95

(under Window Titles) should be

IfoEditTitle=IfoEdit v0.94

because it´s the window name of IfoEdit095. Suggestion for the future: Why don´t automate the process of making images?

it would be very useful to know which versions of the dvd2svcd program you´ve used and which versions of the supporting (included) programs like besweet and ... you have used.

it´s still not working for me.

with the newest version of dvd2svcd there´s almost nothing happening very much after starting to proceed the software got stuck and nothings going on any more.

therefore i tried the older version but still there´s no creating of the subfolders disk1 and disk2 and there is no authoring at all, ifoedit is not starting.

A few comments about your audio logs:

A) Seems you have selected “Audio downsamole 48->44.1”, which means do not transcode, and you have selected two tracks. The “problem" is that the original bitrate is 448 and dvd2svcd will calculate file sizes with 384 (the maximum bit rate available in the combo box), so you will have to take it (manually) into account in the CD size, if not, the resulting files will not fit in the CDs.

B) Unfortunately delayac3.log is overwritten during the processing of the second track, so we do not know if Extracted_audio_1.ac3 is OK or not. But, there is a problem in the second track (or may be a bug of delayac3.exe…)

Seems there is an uncomplete frame at the end of the ac3 file. It is not so important. Moreover, you are using just the same file, (because you have selected no transcoding and delay is cero, so nothing has to be comnpensated).
For your info: delayac3 reads the file size, and the file header to know the bitrate. Then, it calculates the framesize according to the standard (fixed with fsample and bitrate). So file_size/framesize MUST be an exact integer (this is not your case)

Please verify if FileSize=16051389 bytes is your file size reported in windows (To be sure if there is a bug in delayac3.exe or not) Also you can check your file with ac3 delay corrector (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/ac3delay_all.zip) in order to see if reflects the same values...

C) Are you testing with a 5 minutes PGC?. Really? (16MB at 448k less than 5 minutes…). Celltimes.txt gives the same result…

No, 0.95 is correct (and the only one supported).
There is a “bug/mistery” in Ifoedit 0.95. Sometimes it starts with a title 0.94, Read this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39410)

I believe your main problem is the last one (Ifoedit title)

About your suggestion: I´ve started to do this job, but currently it is in the TODO list (create an image takes only a few time with Coujo's tools).

I am using the last dvd2svcd release 1.1.3 build 2, but , in the recent past I´ve used 1.1.1 build 2.
Also, I`ve got the same results with BeSweet 1.4 (release) and 1.5 (several betas), so now, I am using the one included in the bundle 1.5b16, but be aware about gain bug in ac3enc (you can compensate it a litle bit adding some gain like 12 or 18, but, probably, azid output will be saturated in some points).

Please post your mdvdauth_log.txt. If you do not find it, please post your mdvdauth.ini

I tried the suggestion of the linked thread and deleted c:\windows\ifoedit.ini and changed the line in your ini back to
IfoEditTitle=IfoEdit v0.95.
Now it worked fine. Maybe a option in your program to delete c:\windows\ifoedit.ini before starting it would be quite helpful.

Btw, I checked the file size of the audio file and it was ok, so it isn´t a bug in delayac3.exe.

I am using your miniDVD plugin for DVD2SVCD (for a cheap Pacific 1020 DVD player - plays everything) but I am a little puzzled.

At first it would not work at all: as soon as it got to "transcodeac3.exe", AutoIt would give an error message saying that it could not execute the file. It suggested that slashes may be the problem.

So I downloaded AutoIt to learn how to use it, and decompiled your scripts (yes, I know you included them but I wanted to be sure there was no mistake). And I think I've found a bug in mdvdauth.

In both transcodeac3 and mdvdauth you have the following code:

I guess that this is to handle the trailing '\' that sometimes appears on the folder in dvd2svcd.ini. But is seems to me to be the wrong way round. If there is a '\' detected it should invoke StringTrimRight, but as you can see above it only trims if the '\' is NOT present!

I believe the fourth line above should be

IfNotEqual,CharRight, \ , Goto, DoNotTrim

I have changed mine, recompiled and it now works - and I have made some excellent miniDVDs.

What puzzles me, however, is how it ever worked at all. Other respondents seem not to have a problem. Or are they using old versions? (you seem to suggest that this code was introduced in 0.2.2).

Or have I got it completely wrong?

Could you clarify me the following point?.
In dvd2svcd.ini there is a key in “settings” group for each folder of “folder structure”, but in “Folders” group there are some different keys. Specifically, I would like to know where the following files will be located:
dvd2svcd project file.d2s
dvd2svcd.ini (the one in the movie folder)
dvd2svcd chapters file.ini
I assume they will be located in “Source Folder”, but I can not find the appropriate key in “Folders” group, so I am using “DVD2AVI Folder” as the location of these files.

Following a user suggestion, I am trying to include mp2 or ac3 2.0 support in mdvdauth, mainly for the second track. For this feature, low bitrates will be used, so the trick of using a bitrate lower than 224 in the second track (in order to keep the accuracy of D2S bitrate calculator) will be incompatible.

Could be possible to add 448k (an usual bitrate in ac3 5.1) as a selectable value in D2S audio tab?. I know it is not a SVCD standard, but may be in "advanced" mode...

There is a small bug in transcodeac3.exe. If you have a delay error (such as after a split VOB) then it will show up and abort the script.

In transcodeac3.aut, line 244 reads

Goto, TranscodeStart:

.. the ':' should not be there.

Until a new level is released, I have recompiled the script and you can find it (link removed - no longer needed).

Ini_file: Sorry, I know to have the settings in an ini file is not the best solution, but I do not have too much experience in programming...

Audio: I was working with BeSweet/ac3enc, and, yes, there is a gain bug (in my tests, a 6 dB gain loss), but it is not so critical if you use autodetect max gain (at least it works fine for me). But, I have a very bad experience with WinDVD decoders (may be my installation is not good). Seems they do not work properly with ac3 generated by Besweet, not sure. In any case, encoded ac3 files sound well in PowerDVD and also in my settop (Yukai 560), so I suppose the problem is in WinDVD or, more probably, in my installation.

New release: I am currently very busy in my professional life and I do not have free time, but be sure any suggestion will be taken into account (the question could be if my knowledge will be enough to develop it; remember, mdvdauth is only a script, not really a "program").

Subtitles: I was not able to do them work fine in SW players using 480x576 (SVCD resolution), but they work fine in my settop and other settops I've tested. Please describe what is your problem with them and post your logfile mdvdauth_log.txt.

try the new besweet 1.5 b18. there is noc ac3enc bug in this version and v1.4. i tested v1.5b18 with 3 ac3 files an no one became lower volume.

Sorry, but I believe ac3enc.dll is the same (same lenght, same date) in 1.5b16 and 1.5b18. Also in 1.5b19 (which is available in Audio forum).

Please note you have to use "-g 0db" or "-g 1", in order to assure no extra gain is added by BeSweet. If you are using "-g max" or "-g 0" (without db), the maximum gain before saturation will be applied. As I said before, -g max works fine for me, I am happy with it.

In my tests, I use azid to measure the peak level of each channel before and after ac3 transcoding
You can find my results here (http://www.iespana.es/jsoto/results.zip). They are using BeSweet1.5b16, but I get exactly the same values with 1.5b18

Another point is that there are no traces of transcodeac3. It should trace before mdvdauth in the same log file... Are you using this exe?

At the moment I have seen that path in mdvdauth.ini for besweet was not set, i have corrected these but came into the same error message in the log like this:

I love miniDVD as my Cyberhome 505 plays them 100%.

Two small and very simple things. Excuse me if they are too simple, but I have some dudes..

a) Did you copy mdvdauth_cd.ini to mdvdauth.ini?. mdvdauth.ini is not distributed and must exist. mdvdauth_cd.ini is only a template...

b)Besplit is not used anymore, mainly because it can not compensate positive delays.
Although you do not want to transcode the audio you must select in dvd2svcd Audio tab the executable
..\DVD2SVCD\mdvdauth\transcodeac3.exe
in BeSweet path box. Checking the downsample box, no transcoding will be done, but delay compensation will be executed (if needed)
- transcodeac3 must trace before mdvdauth in the same log file.

I am still confused. In which path is located mdvdauth_log.txt?.

And finally, if all is Ok from your point of view, please send me by email the following files (zip format, please), just after a failure:
- dvd2svcd.ini (under dvd2svcd installation path)
- dvd2svcd project file.d2s, under movie folder
- mdvdauth.ini (if it is different from the one you have post)
I will try to reproduce your problem using your environment.

I think i found now my minor fault. As often the error was in front of the machine :confused:

I haven't checked out that i have to save the mdvdauth_cd.ini after setting all pathes and the switches as mdvdauth.ini.

So i go to try it this time in the right way and post you tomorrow evening if i had success. I also will take the transcodeac3.exe instead of the BeSplit.exe to do the delay thing as you mentioned.

But now i tested again your plug and now it worked.

The fault was the not-renaming your mdvdauth_cd.ini to mdvdauth.ini.

I renamed it and now it worked perfectly. Also with transcodeac3.exe

Seems you are using the last dvd2svcd release. Sorry, but I have not tested it yet and as you logfile shows, seems there is a bug besweet command parsing (bitrate=unknown)

Try with dvd2svcd 1.1.3 or wait a couple of days... I am just going to update the pluging.

As everybody knows, D2S has included DVD authoring in his program, and he also has promised IFOEDIT (freeware) support, so in some time this plug will not be interesting for DVD authoring. Anyway, I've finally got a DVD burner and I've been done my last DVD2DVD backups with dvd2svcd + mdvdauth. It works fine (PAL, obviously), with only a minor problem, which will be fixed in the next version:
*.BUP files and *.IFO files are identical, but their date are different, so Nero does not pass the integrity check. You have to copy manually the IFOs to BUPs.

Sorry, you have one or two mistakes.

First (this could be the reason for bitrate=unknown...)
Please DO NOT select Mpeg 5.1. It is not supported. Use stereo instead

Second,
Unckecking downsample means (using mdvdauth) transcode ac3 (change bitrate), so the second audio track at 64 k will not be needed.
You have two possibilities:
a) Uncheck downsample and unselect the second audio track.
b) Check downsample (first track) and select a 64k second track. This "trick" is useful when the original first audio track is a 448 k and you want to keep it as it is (correcting the delay, of course)

There is other thing. It will work, but it is not a good idea to transcode from 192k to 384k... (see mdvdauth_log.txt)

Just a minor update, useful for DVD authoring (no images are needed using Nero)
BTW, I am using a little bit old version of Nero (Nero 5.5.10.20)

Thnx for the new version. Will test it with D2S 1.2.1 Build 2a to see if your mdvdauth for dvd works also fine as miniDVD many times did for me :D :D :D

One of the advance's of your mdvdauth is that i can "downsample" ac3-audio for e.g. from 448Kbit to 256KBit to save more bitrate for the video and also no need for scenarist (instead the great and FREE IfoEdit).

Just to clarify: mdvdauth 026 is a minor update. DVD authoring was already supported in 024. I've done some DVDs with this version, and the only one problem I've found was the dates of BUP and IFO files.

Pay-Pal: I really believe my job is not enough for that (it is only a script!). If you (or anybody) want to donate, better give your money to dvd2svcd. As you can see in other thread, he has only a few donators, and he has worked a lot in his program.

I knew, that your mdvdauth already before the last version can made dvd. But i became last week myself an dvd-burner (NEC ND1300A) so i meant in my last post that i can now try your plugin for make some backup's of my dvd's (especially flippers like Goodfellas R2 PAL, cause it makes me crazy when i must stand up in the half of the film to "flipper" the dvd).

Anyway, i've already donated to the great work of dvd2svcd 3 times in the past, coz i think his prog makes a great job. But i also have now made 2 backups of dvd's with your mdvdauth and....
it works great.

As mentioned in my last post the thing with dvd2dvd (from dvd2svcd) is, that i can't "downsample" :confused: the audio-bitrate from eg. originally 448 to 256 KBit to save bitrate for the video. I made this to become 2 films on 1 DVDR. The quality is very impressive.

So i thought to make a donation also to you, so when you change your mind and make an paypal-account, i would be appreciate to donate you some bucks :D

Hi jsoto!

First of all I'd like to thank you for this outstanding plugin. It works fine for me now, but in the beginning I had some serious problems. I tried to convert some AC3 DivX movies. These were splitted in two parts. What I didn't know was that AC3Delay can't deal with the extracted audio track of the second CD. When you split an AC3 DivX file the AC3 header of the second part is lost. AC3Delay can't convert/encode those tracks. The solution is simple: You have to reencode the AC3 track with Headac3he, then remux it with the video. Otherwise it won't work and in the end you don't get your VOB file. I think this might be interesting for you.

I guess the problem of the second CD is that the ac3 track starts in the middle of a frame, because when splitting the avi in two files no care has been taken on this.

Well, if this is the problem, I think it can be easyly fixed in delayac3, may be in a couple of days..

Just to confirm, do you get the following error
"Error: <filename> is not an ac3 stream"
in the second CD "delayac3_1.log" file?

ok headac3 ist a good solution but not the easyest! use the simple cmd tool ac3fix for this!

the output ac3 (nameofac3fix.ac3) can be transcoded or anything else with the programms dvd2svcd or mdvdauth need. this solution ist the easyest to integrate in an automatic processing. you don´t need to delay the ac3!!!! because many of the ac3s in the avis be delayed!!

That would be nice. It took me hours to figure out what the problem was. But now it's not a problem anymore.

It's a little bit different. "Delayac3_1.log" is empty in most cases. This is what my "mdvdauth_log.txt" says:

Thanks for the tip, but it's very easy. You just have to chose "Source" in "Destination Format." I think the AC3 is left untouched this way. Never use BeSweet if you don't want to downsample. The sound isn't the same anymore after the conversion.

Btw, it is not really an unsynchronized frame, it is an uncompleted one. Delayac3 will skip until the first good frame header will appear. There is no other choice.
The ac3 file produced and used in DVD authoring (although no reencoding has been selected) is fixed.

No, sorry. You need an AC3 audio track for this, otherwise it won't work. But you could convert MP3 to AC3 stereo. That doesn't make much sense but it should work properly. The best solution for AVI/MP3 is an XSVCD, not miniDVD.

transcodeac3 expects an input file called Extracted_audio_x.ac3, so it will not works with mp3, mp2 or even DTS. Ifoedit and DVD standard allow at least the use of mp2 and DTS (I never try IfoEdit). I think I can change the code to support it (using BeSweet, of course), but I wrote mdvdauth mainly for 5.1 sound in CD media, so I never thought on it.

Currently I am focussed on subpictures, which cause "too many frame drops" in IfoEdit in certain Titles. I've done a full search on the forum about this topic and I am trying to find an easy to code solution.

I think this is only at the end of a splitted avi. Or am I wrong? 30 msec. isn't much, and I probably wouldn't notice the delay.

hi i have the following problem with your 0.24.
When you want to encode an NTSC Divx to a PAL DVD the ac3 track is not computed correctly. instead of changing the frame rate (23976 -> 25000) the track is delayed 750 frames, so you have to change it manually with besweet.
Please correct me if thats not true.

NTSC to PAL conversions, in general, are not supported, mainly because I do not have any NTSC source... The "problem", as you said, is in pitch translation which is not managed by transcodeac3
BTW, it is not so easy to manage all the posibilities used by dvd2svcd in a script, but I can try to do it (or may be I could write a very small program), so please post transcodeac3 command line (from dvd2svcd_log.txt) to see the parameters and its order used by d2s.

Yes, in an uncontrolled file split (assuming no errors), you will loose only one frame (part of it will be in the first avi file and the other part in the second). In the second file audio/video will be unsynchronized, but it will be negligible.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll have to find another way to split my avi files to avoid this. The main problem with VirtualDub are the key frames of the video itself. There's no other option to split the files without "damaging" the AC3 frames.

Tested in WinXP. I still have to test it in Win98. There are two points where I have some dudes...

0.2.7 (22-Sep-2003):
- Bug Fix: Subpictures did not work if VTS != 01
- Improvement: Added the choice of subtitles extraction using VobSup and SubToSup. VobEdit fails in multiPGC Titles, and provoke "too many frames drop" error in IfoEdit.
- Bug fix: Bug when applying conditions from transcode to stereo
- Bug fix: delayac3 was not able to fix first ac3 frame
- Bug Fix: Audio track #1 can not be mp2
- Improvement: Support for non-ac3 inputs (Not deeply tested!).

Sorry guys, found a bug in the new Subs method, which hangs SupToSup and mdvdauth. Not always fails, because it depends on the PC speed. That's the reason it did not fail in my previous tests. (I forgot a sleep sentence to wait an OpenFile Window start)

Please download again mdvdauth027 if you are going to use the new subs method. Double click on mdvdauth.exe and the title of the warning window should be mdvdauth v0.2.7b

I've also done LOTR 1 and, at least the Spanish version, has a single PGC VTS, so it should work fine with VobEdit (but I've used the new method)

BTW, I've kept the menus. It is very easy, may be you know how to do it, but if not, here it is the procedure I've used:
1. Reserve 150-200 MB for menus when select CD size in D2S (Use 4150 MB more or less)
2. Use DVDshrink to compress the menus (in fact, all the DVD) in other folder.
3. Apply IFOUpdate
3.1 Save your IFOEdit authored IFOs in a different folder
3.2 Copy all output files from DVDShrink, except the movie VTS on movie/DVD/VIDEO_TS
3.3 Run IFOUpdate
Thats all!

Hi all,

I've tested mdvdauth on Win98SE, and there was a problem in "select folder" dialog (used by VobSub). It has one button less, there isn't the button "create a new folder", so the plugin fails.

I've done a fix (checking which OS is running) and fix it in mdvdauth027c, available at the same link from today.

BTW, I do not have any WIN2k (neither¨WIN_ME) installation, so I assumed WIN98SE=WIN_ME and WIN2K=WIN_XP, but I really do not know if they will work or not.

first of all thanks for jour great plugin !

I use it for DivX -> DVD conversions with subtitles. I have one problem, the fixed chpters don't work although the are mentioned in the readme file as supported feature. I just select it in the CDImage tab and put 300 (5 minutes) in the edit field.

Sorry for the delay. I ran now into a prob. I've tried to backup my
2 dvd's of my extended Edition LOTR 1 to fit on 1 dvd+r.

But i haven't enough space :( on my hdd. So unlucky have to buy new greater hd (think about 160 GB) to make LOTR.

But anyway try my flipper of goodfellas to put it on to 1 dvd+r.

Last night I made Mission Impossible 1+2 onto one dvd+r and it looks so great, CCE makes it possible. Thnx again to your plugin and also that you don't stop making it even better from version 2 version. :D

Edit: Btw: Forgotten to mention that also the forced subs on MI worked fine on my cyberhome 505. ;)

First of all, it must be clear I am almost a newbie in DVD authoring, (learning and learning every day), and I can do/say some mistakes, so be carefull with what I say in this matter, it could be wrong. (In SVCD I have some experience, but I have not in DVD, it is really very very complex)

About "Select folder": Arrg!!!, I've seen Win2K has a DIFFERENT dialog layout than WIN_XP, so, sure VobSub will fail when using WIN2K... Well, I need to update again the plug....

DivX to DVD with subtitles?. I can not believe it works with my plugin!.
Audio may be, I'm trying to support it, even using stereo tracks, but subtitles..., sorry, but I do not know how to do it. (May be it is not so difficult, but the plugin looks for an IFO file to extract the subtitles, so it can not work)

About fixed chapters, I've been looking into the script and I do not find the reason why it not works (I usually use DVD chapters).
Please, could you post (or send it to me) your mdvdauth_log.txt?

LOTR 1: What a pity!. It looks very fine at 2,75 Mbit/s with CCE.
BTW, I am not using Images, I burn directly with Nero, it saves me 4,37 GB.

Subs: Yes, I really do not know how, but they work fine, also to me. In the plugin I copy all the atributes from the original IFO, but forced attribute seems to be inside the Subs stream (I've to investigate this point, just to know...).

Your right with your thought that the forced "switch" is inside the subs. I've made Blade 2 (about 54 forced subs) and with vobsub they appeared as forced coz they are inside the normal subs. But with the plugin from Vobsub for Avisynth i became only the forced subs into Blade 2 (TIP: In the case that they are inside the normal subs, don't forget to activate the switch in the .idx of the subs-Files extracted by VobSub - the switch is marked as forced-subs on/off). They worked fine, are right coloured and are also in the right place on screen (tv). So with little "handhelp" i became them also with your plugin in the right way.

So keep on your good work m8 ;)

Please let me know:
-your frame_per_second (fps parameter in dvd2svcd project file.d2s). I believe the plugin will work fine only in the case of 25 (PAL source). In other case it may fail...
-your CellTimes.txt, is it empty?
-How long is your movie?
-Do you really have a playable DVD under ROOT/VIDEO_TS?. Less than 1 minute in IFOEdit authoring is too fast!.

BTW, use CopyVideoAttr=0, there is not an original IFO when using a divX source..

-I use a short DivX to test. It's only 6 minutes so the complete encoding takes only about 10 minutes :D I selected fixed chapters of 60 seconds so I expected 5 or 6 chapters...
-And yes the IfoEdit authoring takes about a minute for my test movie :D
-Thanks for the CopyVideoAttr=0 tip, I will change that.

please let me know if you need more info. I will do a test run with a complete 1h30m DivX this night.

OK, found the problem.
"Frames" parameter under [Settings] of dvd2svcd project file.d2s in case of avi has a "0" value. I've done a quick fix using Lenght of dvd2svcd.ini (it should be filled OK...). Try this (http://www.iespana.es/jsoto/mdvdauth027d.zip)

You can take from the VobSub-Package the VobSubConfigure to rip the subs and then take SubResync (also from VobSub) to look into the ripped subtitles. If there are forced subs embedded in the normal subs they are marked "forced". But if the forced subs are alone (e.g. you have 2 subs in your language, then mostly the first or second sub of your language are the forced ones) then you only can check this by look them one by one in SubResync. Also most times you can identify them as forced subs when you look the times (e.g. in an 2 hour-movie there must be more than about 30 subs).
The switch that i mentioned is in the .idx-File of the extracted Subs and is called forced-subs on/off. You have to turn the switch off if the forced subs are in an own "subs-stream" and on if they were embedded in the normal "subs-stream".
Hope this make it a little clearer to you, sorry for my bad english.

Hi all,

I've just re-read the thread, and I would like to clarify some points about audio ac3 transcoding:

Never use BeSweet if you don't want to downsample. The sound isn't the same anymore after the conversion
BeSweet is IMHO the more powerful audio tool available (and it is freeware!). It also supports delay correction without transcoding (frame based, like delayac3) in "-payload" mode. In fact, I've coded delayac3 just for fun and for learning, but I could use BeSweet for that (I do not know how it fixes the crc errors, uncompleted frames, which it also does). Delay adjustment accuracy, in this mode, is obviously one frame (BTW, BeSweet also supports in this mode a lot of file formats, not only ac3). In the case of transcoding (to change format, sampling frecuency, bitrate, etc) it is also able to correct delay with full accuracy.

Could you test mdvdauth028 (http://www.iespana.es/jsoto/mdvdauth028.zip) for me?

It includes subs=3 and NTSC--> PAL pitch conversions.

I've found a DivX with fps=23,976, but it has a mono audio track and seems it does not work fine with BeSweet conversions...

BTW, I still have to fix chapter calculations. 23,976 is taken as 23 fps, so chapters will not be accurated.

I don't have much time this week but I already did a little test :

I converted a 23.976 fps (NTSC) DivX to 25 fps (PAL) DVD with the new 0.28 version

The result was a DVD with no sound which played way to fast (it looks like twice as fast as the original movie). I checked the files used by IfoEdit, the video was ok but the audio was not converted ok. I'm @work right now but I will post the logfiles tonight

Subs=3 I didn't test yet because the downloaded VobSub subtitle files only consist of the *.sub and no *.idx. Anyone a clue how to deal with that ???

did some more testing but could get a single DivX to work anymore (tried two short testfiles, NTSC-mp3 and PAL-ac3 and a complete movie. Tried all kind of settings but finaly I figured out the lowrate=ac3 caused the strange speedup of the final DVD image.

Have to do more testing this weekend.

Yes, I know, but I prefer to keep an initial filter (to fix uncompleted, unsynchronized and crc bad frames). I do not know which will be the behaviour of Ifoedit with this kind of errors and processing delay does not take so time...

BTW, there is other way to convert NTSC to PAL. I`ve used it in the past (only once) in a 29,9 fps to 25 fps convertion, because I wanted to keep the original sound (source was an old jazz concert and interlaced video). I did not want to change the duration (no audio pitch conversion) so I processed the video. This is a very CPU time consuming but the results in terms of sound are the best. In terms of video the results are also good (in my case the original video quality was no very good). Please note that a 23.9 to 25 fps is only 4% far, but 29,9 to 25 is 20%, and the sound changes too much.

This was my avisynth 2.0 filter (avisynth 2.08):

mp2 output shouldn't be a problem. When converting DivX with mono audio to MPEG2 (DVD2SVCD) you get some kind of "smurf sound". You know, those little blue people with white caps... :D
Just convert the mono track with Cool Edit Pro or dBpower AMP to stereo and you won't have any problems. Seems so that BeSweet doesn't like mono input.

I know but most of the NTSC DivX around are 23.976 fps and for those the pitch change isn't noticable. I'll try the Avisynth script anyway...

conversion of NTSC - AC3 DivX -> PAL - AC3 DVD also works.

tested with D2S 1.2.1 build 3, IfoEdit 0.95 and mdvdauth 0.28

next I'll try to get the Subs=3 feature to work.

Still 2 questions remain:
does anybody know what the CCE Quality factor should be for DVD encoding? The D2S default of 17 seems to be optimized for SVCD encoding. I Read somewere that 5 should be a good value ?

does anybody know how to use downloaded subtitle files (*.sub) with sub2sup which expects a *.idx along the *.sub ???

CCE Quality factor for DVD encoding. Yes, a value of 5 is recommended in the guides, but it also depends on the source and average bitrate. That means, in a long movie may be a little bit higher value will be better. Read w00kiee's summary in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63050

small update : conversion for both AC3 and mp3/2 audio movies to DVD goes quite well. For now I use permanent subtitles because I can't seem to get the info to convert srt to idx / sub. Maybe someone can send me a sample of those files (xp_eric@hotmail.com) to investigate furter or is there a method to convert directly to sup format ?

CCE : 2 pass VBR quality factor 5, bicubic resize
permanent subtitles with textsub plugin, accidentalpresidency font
fixed chapters
192 kbs for mp2, 384 for AC3

The burned DVD's (+R) work in most players but there are a few (which support +R media) who don't recognize them !?

I'm going to test some Avisynth scripts to compare quality / speed.

I found srt2sup (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/subtitle_tools/srt2sup.cfm). I (mis)used Subs=2 to test it. I put the created sup file as VTS_01_1.20.sup in the DVD\TEMP\SUBS folder. The result was green bars when the subs should appear. Do I have to do something with colors ? I selected white subs, blue borders and black background in srt2sup.

Is it possible to change the stream ID's for the audio and / or subtitle streams to have the correct naming when playing the DVD (eg. English audio, Dutch subtitles in my case) ?

I think you have to do some manual hex editing using IFOEdit.. May be you can copy and paste colours from other DVD, not sure..

About audio tracks, they are "labeled" by IfoEdit during the authoring phase, mdvdauth sends to IfoEdit the language (if it is known, but may be it is unknown when using Avis..)
But for subpictures, the language information is taken from the original DVD, which is not available in avi files.
So, again, you will have to do some manual editing with Ifoedit. Don't worry and try, it is simple.

Well, I do not have experience using NTSC, but as I said, I converted a NTSC 29,9 fps using pitch translation and the conversion (the resulting movie is longer and audio frecs are lower) was the opposite when you converts a 23,9 to 25 (the movie is shorter and the audio frecs are higer), so I suppose the conversion is "assuming" 25 fps and correcting the audio in the needed percentage.

That's exactly what I mean. I want to automate the process as much as possible so I want to to preset the default languages of the audio and subtitles streams (eg. in I mdvdauth.ini). Normally they are always the same when you convert AVI's to DVD.

dvd2svcd shows the delay correction needed at the end of DVD2AVI (see d2s log file)

Because of a known issue in IFoedit095 (I believe it has been fixed in 096, not sure), this delay can not be simply translated to DVD authoring phase with IFOedit, so I previously fix the delay with "delayac3.exe", a small CLI program included in mdvdauth. This also can be done with BeSweet in -payload mode in a loseless way (framewise), which also supports many more formats.

D2S adjusts the delay with BeSweet with -ota ( -d "delay" ) which is the "lossy way" to do it (but this is the right choice when transcoding to mp2)

did you see the changelog for the upcomming DVD2SVCD ? VirtualDub instead for audio conversion and framerate conversion. Does this have impact for your plugin ???

Well, not an expert, but with VirtualDub you can see (in File information) the skew of the audio. May be this is the delay, not sure.

About new d2d2svcd:
Currently D2S does the audio processing in two steps: First, generates a wav file with madplay and second, calls besweet to do the encoding. I think d2s is going to change the first step, but not the second. If this is the case, mdvdauth will continue working, or at maximum, a minimum update will be needed if the wav file name changes.

I had to reinstall my PC last weekend. After reinstalling D2S, utils and mdvdauth plugin everything seems to work fine again. I converted a DivX and the created DVD files played fine in PowerDVD. I burned them with NERO and the DVD played ok in my PC, again with PowerDVD. But... my standalone DVD player rejected the disc as did several other players which played discs created before perfect. The disc could be processed by DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink withouth any problem so authoring doesn't seem the problem ?

Anybody an idea ?

@jsoto: in the readme of mdvdauth you describe all changes in DVD2SVCD to work with mdvdauth. But if you select SVCD as output file type in the misc. tab the CCE settings for the GOP sequence are M=3, N/M=5 and for DVD they are M=3, N/M=4, shouldn't they be changed ?

Open your IFO with IFOEdit and GET VTS sectors. Any errored sectors?

I did (now using 6.0.0.19). But that wasn't the only problem. I use Kazaa Lite Codec Pack and also version 2.05 caused troubles. (switched to the new 2.10 solved it). Finaly until now I used DVD-UDF type in NERO to burn my DVD's (I really don't know why) but the new version had a "invalid type for this compilation" kinda warning so I switched to DVD-Video. Now my DVD's are more compliant (it now also plays on an old DVD Video Recoreder at work).

but i'm back. I'm still trying to find a method to add selectable subs to my DivX -> DVD project. I found a way : I use DVDSupTools (http://web.quick.cz/FKasparek/Software/DVD/DVDSupTools.htm) to create a sup file from a sub (MicroDVD text file) and place them in DVD\TEMP\SUBS\VTS_01_1.20.SUP. This adds them perfectly to my DVD. 2 things remain :

1) I have to set the colors manually in the ifo. Can't it be automated by mdvdauth or another tool ?

2) The subtitle Id is not correct. It should be "Nederlands" (Dutch), Id 0x27 instead of English Id 0x20. Can this be changed or better automated ?

Just to confirm (but I still didn't do my homework). It works for me with BeSweet 1.5b18 (ac3enc seems to be different), included in previous D2S versions, but not with 1.5b19. It is enough to replace ac3enc.dll with the previous one and 1.5b19 also works for me

Installation went ok. I don't like mdvdauth using DVD2SVCD as a slave but I can still just start with DVD2SVCD and don't use the GUI (sorry ;-)

subs = 3 isn't working. I found the problem in de mdvdauth script. In line 487 you check wether $SubToSupExe exists but this isn't used for subs = 3. I removed "OR ( $Subs = 3)", re-compiled and tested it. It workes fine now.

I didn't know of the feature to start with the no subs command. thanks to the installation I turned it off now !

I noticed that the subtitle colors were not set to all zero's like in the previous version. They are now 10 80 80 for color 0 and 80 80 80 for colors 1 til 3. I don't know if this is caused by IfoEdit 0.96. I'd still like to configure my own set of colors. DVDSupEncode uses 10 80 80, 20 80 80, 80 80 80 and EB 80 80 which results in really good quality subs (I did a lot of testing in that area).

I've detected a problem with gain in transcoding ac3. It always sets the default of 2 (which is not a bad value) but not the user selected one. To be fixed in the next beta.

Not really needed to put D2S in "slave" mode. With GUI you can select "Launch nothing", and GUI only modifies mdvdauth.ini and some settings of dvd2svcd.ini (mainly exe paths). Use the GUI, it took me some time to develop :)

This is done by CopyIFOAttr with -subsdef option (see your logfile). Defaults are currently "hardcoded", but my intention is to put them in the ini file. But there is a 16 colours palette, so I do not know how a user can select the right ones.

Sorry, it is a new feature (minor), not reflected in the changelog...

Only the first 4 are used. Configurable in the ini file would be ***REALLY*** apriciated. (It's the ONLY thing left I have to do manually now)

I changed copyifoattr.cpp to set al values of the 16 colors to 0x00 and change the first to 0x10 0x80 0x80, second to 0x20 0x80 0x80, third to 0x80 0x80 0x80 and fourth to 0xEB 0x80 0x80 as specified in the documentation of DVDSupEncode. So not initializing everything to 0x80 and change Color 1, 7 and 9 as you did in the original code. Works perfect !

I would recomend DVDSupencode as the tool to do the sub 2 sup conversion...

Now my DivX -> DVD encoding is fully automated !

there's a small bug in the transcodeac3.au3 script. In lines 315 and 317 you forgot a '&' between the first text and the string variable. This causes the audio encoding to fail even if delayac3 could fix some errors. Adding the '&' and recompiling did the job...

Je, je... You have used AT LEAST once mdvdauthGUI.. There is a "trick" in it. D2S checks the version of bbmpeg.dll not the version of the exe. MdvdauthGUI simply copies the dll from bbmpeg folder to mdvdauth folder, so D2S finds the right dll in the same folder than fakebbmpeg.exe

EDIT: I forgot to mention the reason for this trick. It is pretty obvious: D2S stops waiting the user's answer and this is not desirable when D2SRoBa is automatically recovering D2S. For the same reason mdvdAuthGUI "unchecks" automatically the warning about max SVCD bitrate (which is usually higher in a DVD output)

Right....my first post in this thread. Great little plugin, but a couple of questions/problems.

I'm using it for converting AVIs with ac3 sound to DVDs, using latest D2SRoBa plugin. The problems I am having are:

1. Authoring does not work at the end (Scenarist is launched as usual and looks for the encoded mp2 track which it would normally be muxing and which of course isn't there).

2. Error in the ac3 fixing: for every file I try, i get told there are bad frames in it. At the end of the fixing I get a dialog saying it audio may be out of synch (it never is though) which I can click OK to and the process continues.

3. The trick of selecting a second audio track at 64kbit to make the sizing calculations correct doesn't seem to work in D2SRoBa (it still just uses 384 + 0 in it's calculations.

4. For NTSC --> PAL conversions, the audio is completely out of synch (it doesn't seem to change the playback rate of the audio at all).

I apologise is some of these issues have already been addressed.

I use it for (mostly) NTSC DivX -> PAL DVD's. Works great !!! No problem with AC3 (or MP2)audio out of sync. Scenarist is not used for the authoring, IfoEdit is. I use only DVD2SVCD + CCE + mdvdauth...

Right...I suspect the problem may be with using D2SRoBa as well. I think it confuses this plugin and prevents the authoring stages from being launched correctly. In your NTSC DivX -> PAL DVD conversions, are you talking about conversions from DivX's with ac3 audio, and if so what happens to the ac3 audio? Does it get it's length changed at the start of the process or does that get done during the authoring phase? With me, the track does not get changed at the start of the process.

Error in the ac3 fixing: for every file I try, i get told there are bad frames in it. At the end of the fixing I get a dialog saying A dialog?. I don't remember to code a dialog...IIRC, errors when fixing are only logged, but there isn't any advice to the user. May be a Scenarist advice?
3. The trick of selecting a second audio track at 64kbit to make the sizing calculations correct doesn't seem to work in D2SRoBa I didn't check it. I'll do.
4. For NTSC --> PAL conversions, the audio is completely out of synch (it doesn't seem to change the playback rate of the audio at all). Could you post your logfile mdvdauth_log.txt and the audio part of dvd2svcd_log.txt?
and if so what happens to the ac3 audio? Does transcodeac3 analyzes D2S BeSweet command and "translates" it to a similar BeSweet command but with ac3 output (instead of mp2), so pitch translations are done, like standard D2S, during audio encoding time (at least this is the intention).
Has anyone succesfully used this plugin in conjunction with D2SRoBa to create DVDs from AVI's? I didn't, sorry, I live in a PAL land, and most of the times I work with DVD inputs.

Did you change VCDXBuild.exe by mdvdauth.exe?. Remember, with his plug, you have to select SVCD output in Misc tab. All these settings should be done by mdvdauthGUI, are you using it?

I don't understand why transcode=1 in that logfile. "Do not transcode audio" is selected in DVD2SVCD. Basically nothing ever seems to really happen to the ac3 file (length correction, delay, etc...). All these logs are for a conversion using DVD2SVCD only (if I can get all my issues fixed for this, then I'll go on to trying to use it with D2SRoBa as well.

That's right. Transcode MUST be done, because pitch adjustments are required (Transcode=1 means "Run BeSweet"). But, at the end, you have found a bug. Transcode should be done to the same bitrate (you have checked "Do not transcode"), and the plugin is using 384 as output bitrate... (so, the 64k "trick" will not work, as you point out in your previous post). Try this (http://www.iespana.es/jsoto/transcodeac3_030c.zip)

Basically nothing ever seems to really happen to the ac3 file (length correction, delay, etc...).
In this particular case, delay correction is not needed. The plugin takes the required value of delay from the D2S BeSweet (changed to transcode) command line, and there is not delay on it.
Delayac3 is executed to fix any error, like CRC, uncompleted frames (if present), to avoid any problem during authoring. But if there is not any error, Extracted_audio_1_fixed.ac3 will be exactly the same than Extracted_audio_1.ac3

Ok, I'll try that new version of transcodeac3.exe now. Does that fix mean that transcoding will be to 448kbit if I select 384 + 64? To be honest if the track is getting transcoded anyway, I don't really mind it getting transcoded to 384, it isn't a big problem (as long as the bitrate calculations work correctly).

That logfile was complete, which indicates that there is a problem. Also, that dialog which I said pops up in my earlier post is an AutoIt dialog. The message in it is not particularly enlightening as to what is wrong.

So if pitch adjustments need to be done, the ac3 track needs to be completely transcoded, is that right (eg for NTSC --> PAL)?

I'm continuing to do all my testing with DVD2SVCD only at the moment by the way (not using D2SRoBa).

Right, I think I've solved the problem...when doing NTSC --> PAL conversions, "Do not transcode audio" must be unchecked (which makes sense really). I haven't tested to see if it's possible to encode at 448 yet (I'll test on the next movie I do). I'll also test using D2SRoBa.

Just to confirm...

xp_eric has detected the following bug:
there's a small bug in the transcodeac3.au3 script. In lines 315 and 317 you forgot a '&' between the first text and the string variable
So, if you have one error in ac3 (it is usual to have an uncompleted frame due avi file cuts) an Autoit Error dialog will pop up. The message is a syntax error, but, probably you will see part of the message to be logged ( ac3 errors). Is this the case? Could you check your delayac3_1.log file? The error should be there...

Last fix includes both (this bug and the 384+64 one) fixed, so now, the dialog will not pop up, but the error should be there.

I've found another issue in the case of DVD input. If main movie PGC is not TITLE_1 in the VTS, as VobSup starts with TITLE_1 selected by default, no subpictures will be extracted (at least not the right ones). I believed VobSup selects automatically the right PGC, but seems I was wrong.

I still have a problem with 030 though : During authoring IfoEdit stops with a INTERNAL BUFFER error. Hitting the OK button continous the process and still delivers a perfectly authored DVD (as far as I can see, it plays perfectly in several standalone players). Anybody a clue ?

Well, the plug (using the GUI) automatically changes some settings in D2S. If the encoding finished without any problems, it recovers the original ones (in your case, SVCD, I assume). But if something has been wrong may be you have to recover them manually. The settings to recover are:
A) the three executable paths:
Besweet (in audio tab)
Runbbmpeg (in bbmpeg tab)
vcdxbuild (in cd image tab)
B) Aspect ratio in conversion tab
C) In bitrate tab just click "Use default" (if you are not using D2SRoBa)
That's all.

the reason I didn't go into the problems is because it doen't seem to be the same one each time.
I believe the main one is that infoedit is picking up the Extracted_audio_1.ac3 instead of the Extracted_audio_1_fixed.ac3
When I do it manual it seems to work. Also I have never been able to get
Imgtool to give me a good image.
as an aside I have read that infoedit and cce have problems, is this still the case?

I have read that infoedit and cce have problems, Not really, Remux option in IFOedit does not work, but there is no problem in PAL authoring. There is a known problem in NTSC authoring (AFAIK, not related with CCE), but I'm a PAL user, so never pay attention to it.

manually as you know me. ;) At first I used the GUI to configure everything. When It didn't seem to work I manually edited it with these settings as they seemed the most logical to me.

Sub colors: (& also precommand) had been broken, because I've quoted filenames (to allow blank spaces in the names). But using -subsdef or -precommand, there is no Ifo source file and a parameter " " was issued to copyifoattr. I hope it is fixed in 032b, but i didn't test it yet.

Celltimes=1 means an external file (CellTimesFile) should be used as chapters. Usually generated previously with IFOedit. I use it when not all Cells are chapters, so Chapters info extracted by D2S is only the chapter entry points, but not all Cell entry points. Not useful in AVI, unless you want to fix the chapters manually (remember, inside Celltimes.txt there are frame numbers, not seconds)

I want to declare that I'm not a D2S expert.

I tried opening the avi and the MPV files in vdub and there are absolutely no delay between this 2 files.

IMHO the problem is due to the first error in the delayac3 log, but how to fix it? and how to re-author the dvd without recompressing the video? (I have all the intermediary files of course)

Well, to recover your encode:
Option a)
1.- Try fixing Extracted_audio_1.ac3 with a different tool, like besliced or ac3fix.
2.- Rename fixed file to Encoded_audio_1.ac3
3.- Start D2S and recover from CD image.

Option b)
1.- Add 1 sec (or the needed delay) of silence at the begining of your fixed file (Encoded_audio_1.ac3). Simply "correct" the delay with ac3 delay corrector or with delaycut.
2.- Rename fixed file to Encoded_audio_1.ac3
3.- Start D2S and recover from CD image.

I would like to have the first 20-30 KBytes of your Extracted_audio_1.ac3, just to see what is hapening with delayac3.
Could you send them to me?

The file is made of 30 KB of null bytes, so this is the problem because delayac3 can not detect how many bytes skips until the first good frame. Anyway, this file hangs delaycut, so it helps me to fix it. :)

It has been a long time since I used mdvdauth. My serious problem is that with 0.33 I never get a second or even third CD or mdvdauth hangs completely. Hours of encoding and then THIS! :mad: The program terminates normal, everything seems to be fine. Temp, Root and CD1, that's all I get in the DVD folder. Any ideas?

You're forever trying to rename VTS_01_4.VOB, when it should be _3, _2. Later the code finds no VTS_01_1.VOB in these directories, so deletes them. If the movie spanned 4 CD's, I think you'd see the 4th, but of course not many do.

I had noticed this, but I tend to use IFOEdit's split by chapters rather than mDVDauth's split; I find that VOBs split by size have navigation errors in the subsequent VTS_01_x's.

jsoto's right, you don't have to repeat the hours of coding provided you haven't deleted any files. DVD2SVCD will allow you to recover (once mDVDauth is fixed) and will just rerun the last few minutes or so.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I had to recover authoring in this case. The movie is short enough for one CD, but I enlarged it by raising the bitrate to ensure it wouldn't. As I said, authoring failed completely on this one.

Chapter selection in GUI and ini. Celltimes can be automatically extracted from original IFO. In this way the authored VOBs can be the replacing title in VobBlanker (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73145) app, for 1:1 backup.

Hi Jsoto. From 0.34 version I get final movie which crashes PowerDVD 5.

If I try to open the dvd structure from hdd and/or form a dvd-r poewerdvd closes when opening the movie.

In the 0.35 you added also mkisofs support. Also mounting this iso image with daemon tools and opening it with powerdvd crashes it.

With Windvd 5 all works perfectly (sorry but I haven't tried with a stand-alone dvd-player.

What's happened? Movie created with mdvdauth 0.33 works good on powerdvd

Maybe it depends from d2sroba?? when I updated to 0.34 I started using d2sroba ...

I'm using DVD2SVCD 1.2.1 beta 3, d2sroba 3.4.4, and other micro-utilities are up to date ..

Does PowerDVD crash with any DVD or only with a specific one?.
Does the same DVD work OK with mdvdauth033 (with same versions of D2S and D2SRoBa)?
Maybe it depends from d2sroba? I don't believe it.

I think this problem is movie-related .. i tried another 2 movies without any problem.

I was converting a divx to dvd.

I converted it 3 or 4 times with mdvdauth 0.34 and 0.35 and d2sroba 3.2 -> 3.4.4

With each conversion of this divx I always get a dvd which hangs powerdvd, but which works perfectly with windvd and Gabest's media player classic.

Powerdvd simply exit after some seconds after loading the movie, before starting to play it.

With other divx's I obtain dvd's which gave no errors, so I'm satisfied and declare this problem depending of the original divx.

I no longer have the log files (sorry) so I hope this error doesn't reproduces .. if so I will post logs next time

About joining 2 dvd's with same menu: Reading the Vobblanker thread and mdvdauth thread gave me the idea of using the cell information chapter from the 1st dvd to author with your plugin the whole main movie (which I previously joined with Dvdshrink/Recode). Is it possible to do it?
I have 2 more questions whether is possible keep all 4 audio streams and where it is the cell information used or applied?

No, mdvdauth (and also D2S) supports only two audio tracks. You can do it with manual authoring.

- For 1:1 backup, check Original IFO CellTimes. mDVDAuth will extract the Cells info from the ripped IFO
- For movie only backups, check Selected in DVD2SVCD, and then select in D2S CD image tab fixed chapters or DVD chapters, whichever you want.

jsoto, I am a little puzzled by the default bitrate settings set up by mDVDauth GUI.

After the GUI has started DVD2SVCD (having selected miniDVD), the CD breakpoints are at 92, 138, 184, 230 and 276 minutes. This means that a movie of 90 minutes - not uncommon - will get a one-disc encoding at a mere 834Kb/s, if 685MB CD size is selected.

This makes for a very blocky movie in most cases: 92 minutes is IMHO too much for one CD.

My question is, what was wrong with the DVD2SVCD defaults, which amount to breakpoints at 76, 125 and 163 minutes? These give a max 76 minutes at a more respectable 1026Kb/s. After using the GUI I intervene and set DVD2SVCD back to the defaults, with a 685MB CD size setting, which has always worked for me.

I realize that you don't do much CD encoding any more but I wondered if there was some magic reason for these bitrate settings that escapes me.

Even with D2SRoBa's fantastic algorithm, I would be very surprised if a 90 minute movie looked good on one disk. D2SRoBa gains a significant speed advantage by reliably setting constant quality, but it can't really hope to better CCE's 4-pass variable coding. Some of the passes supposedly redistribute the bandwidth where it's needed most, a trick D2SRoBa can't match with its single pass. You've got to get something for all that extra time!
So seems for mDVDAuth it's better to leave the D2S defaults as they are or even more, change to a little lower, because CD size (685) is lower than in SVCD (800).
I have never found a problem with D2S's defaults as they are, even taking into account the 685MB CD size. I have even pushed an 80 minute movie onto one CD - although admittedly below my normal quality expectations.I'll change them in next release.

Don't get it wrong. AFAIK, D2SRoBa does not use these values. Well, may be to force D2S to calculate the video bitrate, but it calculates the number of CDs required for a given Q.

mdvdauth needs to work in XXX2SVCD mode (SVCD output).

About AVI resize, there are three situations:
- An exact 4:3 AVI (i.e. 640x480 pixels). You MUST select 4:3, no borders added
- An exact 16:9 AVI. (i.e. 640x360) You can select 16:9 encoded as 4:3 (borders added) or Anamorphic.
- Any other odd DAR: IMO, you need to manually adjust the avisynth script. May be my resizer calculator can help you.

BTW, probably resizing plugins like FACAR will do the job automatically, but I'm not using them, so I cannot guarantee you the result. In any case I recommend you to give FACAR a try, I know the author and he's a high quality oriented guy.

I have one other problem with your latest version. Setting the colors of the subtitles when doing an AVI 2 DVD conversion seems to be broken. Although I can't quite figure out the correct settings in the ini file for AVI conversions. Your readme.txt seems to be a bit outdated for these new additions. I used the same settings as I used earlier (Subs=3, CopyVideoAttr=1, AVI=1) but the colors are not set...

BTW, D2S 122B1 is bundled with BeSweet 026 which supports again ac3enc (a better but no bug free version). AFAIK, ac3 2.0 is now working again.

finally changed over to the latest version of MDVDAUTH. Works fine. DVD2SVCD 1.2.2 build 1 has a (confirmed) bug in AVI resizing so still on 1.1.3 build 3 for now.

I have another change request for AVI 2 DVD mode :

can you add settings to the ini-file to specify bitrates for mpeg2 and ac3 audio, eg. 192 and 448?

jsoto Don't you call Besweet from the AutoIt script so you can use any value? The only problem is the calculation of the size of the video stream but my DVD's are almost never completely filled. Maybe I'll try to hack it in myself for now...

(I'll ask DVD2SVCD to add 448 to his application too)

Another (general) question: I started using D2SRoba but because mDvdAuth uses the SVCD settings of DVD2SVCD, D2SRoba assumes SVCD is actually the output format. What settings should I use in D2SRoba to ensure the created MPEG2 stream is DVD compliant?

No specific settings in D2SRoBa for DVD compliant. Max video bitrate is adjusted by mdvdauthGUI to a safe value, lower than the maximum allowed in the standard (using the maximum there is a high risk of buffer overruns in IFOEdit authoring).

About other settings, I'm using RB's CCE templates (progresive and interlaced)

Closed GOPs: I've read somewhere that DVD standard asks for closed GOPs, but I'm absolutely sure nobody is forcing all GOPs to be closed.

jsoto I also use 8000 but still I allmost allways get the famous INTERNAL BUFFER error of IfoEdit. Hitting OK continues and still results in an perfectly authored DVD. I think the cause is the DVDSupEncode subtitle stream though?

Not sure, may be. In fact, with big sup files (like BOV subpictures), IFOEdit authoring fails.

I always overwrite the previous sup file created by DVDSupEncode. But... The new subs are kind of appended to the existing. I didn't notice it until now because the resulting DVD contains only the new subs. When importing the sup in srt2sup you get errors / warnings and previous subs are visible :confused:

The trick is to remove the previous sup before creating a new one.

The problem I've found with these peaks was always in authoring phase, (IFOEdit and also dvdauthor).

No, mdvdauth is a "movie-only" tool. But you can use VobBlanker to replace the movie in the original mini-dvd, keeping the menu.
I believe DVD-RB doesn't manage mini-dvds...

Asuming you are using mdvdauth, subs are extracted using VobSub+SubToSup (select this radio button in mdvdauth GUI). In DVD2SVCD don't select any subs, neither rip them.

I´ve already seen higher peak values than specified in CCE. It happens normally with lower Q values and high complexity of video source.
The problem I've found with these peaks was always in authoring phase, (IFOEdit and also dvdauthor).
Sorry, I didn´t understand it completely. Which peak do you mean, higher than 9800 or 8000 ? And what did you do to fix that ?
Normally, I use mplex. Did you know some limitation of it ?

I fixed the problem using 8000 as max video bitrate in CCE. I'm sure CCE is having more than 8000 in some peaks, but using 8000, seems it is not going above mplex/IFOedit limits.
When using 9800 or 9000 as max video bitrate in CCE, the peaks (probably higher than these limits) provoke buffer problems in authoring phase (mplex/IFOEdit).

But, I do not have much experience on CCE parameters customization, so may be I'm doing something wrong or may be there is another fix. I cannot help you on this area...

The only way to "fix" this is setting "DVD compliant" parameter. I said "fix", because it seems that works, but I don´t know if in all cases. You can try it if you want. It really controls better this limit and of course increase encoding time.

Unfortunatelly, I don´t use in general, because sometimes I need to create a half-D1 mode and CCE padded image to 720x480. And this was the reason to ask you.

Is there a reason why mplex.exe (in DVD Author) won't recognize file names created by transcodeac3.exe called "Encoded_audio_1_mp2.mp2"? Mplex.exe is looking for files called "Encoded_audio_1.mp2".

I tried to edit the transcodeac3.au3 file to delete the 2 instances where "_mp2" are found. That didn't work. The files produced by transcodeac3 still end with _mp2.mp2.

Any suggestions?

P.S. - I found this in the mDVDauth.au3 file:

You need to change transcodeac3.au3 and also change mdvdauth.au3, and, after that, compile both scripts to get transcodeac3.exe and mdvdauth.exe.

EDIT: replace all the string "_mp2" with ""

for one thing celltimes.txt seems to be missing.

I have a clue why it doesn't work. I just haven't a clue how to fix it.
It doesn't work because the folder and executable names for DVD2AVI(as it was in the old version) have now changed, which has stopped mDVDAuth 0.42 working.

A little bird tells me there will be a mDVDauth 0.43. So much for me putting in the plugins sticky that only D2SRoBa was still being developed! ;)

Obviously I can't put any date on that as its development is nothing to do with me. But I'm sure patience will be rewarded :)

Anyway, I think not, mdvdauthor still is not obsolete, but sure you can do the things in other (better) way...

The point I'd like to change is the muxer and use MuxMan wich is the best in class.... Lately I've found some (minor) bugs in IFOEdit authoring. And may be the subs demuxer (pgcDemux has a better performance in case of some protected DVDs...)

The readme of the latest version clearly states :

"- Fix: If you're trying to convert joined AVI files with an AC3 stream the muxer could fail due to a bad frame at the joinpoint. DVD2SVCD is now checking the entire AC3 file for bad frames (wrong length frames). This is usually such a few frames that you will not notice any sync problems.

mdvdauth was able to detect it and the frame is silenced.

dvd2svcd (w/o mdvdauth) using source audio did not detect the error... BeSweet was started in -payload mode, but the error still remains in the output file ... :confused: :confused: Not sure if I'm doing something wrong...

The check done by the newest DVD2SVCD is internal, not BeSweet based.
Following audio extraction from an AVI with AC3, the latest DVD2SVCD checks for bad AC3 frame lengths. VDub derived AVI editors tend to cock this up when cutting and rejoining AVI's and BeSweet in Payload mode doesn't correct it.

This then causes multiplexing to fail when the offending frame is reached, which is why the check was introduced.

For example, open an AC3 AVI in VDubMod and pick an arbitrary frame, delete everything after frame X and save as clip A, then reopen the original, delete everything before and including frame X and save it as Clip B. If you then open clip A, append clip B and save, it should be just like the original, right?

Wrong - the audio data from the frame at the cutpoint is not correctly distributed with a result that the rejoined AVI has a audio frame which is too long at the join point.

If you convert it with an older DVD2SVCD, the MPlex muxed MPEG file will only contain up to frame X. With the new one it works, albeit simply by deleting the dud frame.

As the checks done by DVD2SVCD are very different from those done in mDVDAuth, I would refute the notion that mDVDAuth's checks are obsolete.
