View Full Version : MJPEG - how do I start it?

Hi! This is my first post here, so please help please...
I have an Asus TNT2 ViVo card and did some captures
with its ASV2 codec (or is it capture driver?).
With quality set to 9 (max) it looks not-so-bad, but then
I saw Picvideo MJPEG codec comments here and decided to give it a try.
BUT! In VirtualDub format and custom format dialogs I get:
Error 418: Unsupported video format
when choosing MJPEG.
So, what do I do now?

Hi...
First, don't use the Asus MJPEG codec, it's quality is below average (even at the highest settings).
Second, write more infos...
What GPU model? What OS? What resolution? What colorspace? And so on.
Altough I haven't used my Asus card for months, I would bet on the colorspace or resolution.
So, try to change the resolution to full PAL (either 704x576 or 768x576, depends on the card), and the resolution to UYVY (IIRC). For instance my Asus 3800 only supported 704x576, 352x288 and some below (who uses that, anyway?). Not to mention that you always should capture at max. resolution and then resize when encoding.
If that doesn't work, come with more infos and we'll find a solution.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Mijo.

here's my answer i posted to him on hr.rec.divx:
>pod "set custom format" se odabire SAMO format (720x576 recimo) i
color-space (YUY2 za bt8x8 a za asus govna UYVY kolko znam)
a pod "compression" odabereš mjpeg i konfiguriraš ga.....
naravno da ti je error418 kad si odabro mjpeg pod
format.(naime...vjerovatno nemaš hardversku mjpeg karticu...)
happy capturing.......
and in english:
[under "set custom format" ,ONLY format & color space are picked.....
compression goes under "compressoin" setting....
so choose UYVY for asus and res. you wan't and then under compression go for mjpeg and confingure........as obvioiusly you DON'T have
hardware mjpeg compression so it would be picked under "formats"...]
oups..yeah,and here's his answer:
>Stoput hvala i svaka ti dala :).

Thanks for reply Mijo Ookami :).
First. Asus MJPEG codec?
I didn´t know that ASV2 from asus is a kind of MJPEG.
Thanks to ^^I4004^^ (or something - I can`t copy-paste right now :))
from hr.rec.divx and here, I got it in VDub.
It was simple - UYVY as format, and then MJPEG in compression dialog.
I captured my kids birthsday (Q=19) right away from a lousy VHS and was a
bit unsure when comparing it with previous attempts con ASV2.
It seems a bit more blurred now.
I`ll try to check it again.
Now some more info:
Graphic card is an old (it was pretty expencive back then)
ASUS TNT2 ultra deluxe vIvO. Chrontel 7003B-V is a video-in chip
on similar V3800 TVR card, but here- I`m not sure. Been searching a bit on
Google, but couldn`t manage to find an info.
TVtool hardware detection says: CH7005, but it could easily be TV-in.
Or it is both, I dont know.
It is AGP 4X, 32Mb, sideband on, driver is Asuses v6.31c (solid as a rock).
Video out is brilliant. Video-in - I can`t judge it - haven`t seen them many :).
I can easily capture at 704*576, then avisynth deinterlace and filter like:
***********************************************************************************
LoadPlugin("E:\Program Files\AviSynth2\plugins\decomblegacy.dll")
LoadPlugin("E:\Program Files\autoDub1.7b2\Softs\AVSfile\Convolution3d.dll")
LoadPlugin("E:\Program Files\autoDub1.7b2\Softs\AVSfile\msharpen.dll")
AVISource("d:\capture01mjpeg.avi")
#this one is for ASV2`s RGB mode
#ConvertToYUY2
#This one was for some syns issues
#AssumeFPS(25)
#FieldDeinterlace()
Telecide(guide=2)
crop(8,16,-24,-16)
###############################################
#crop mora bit kvoc. od 4 za conv.3D
#TVcapture preset:
#Convolution3D (0, 32, 128, 32, 128, 10, 0)
#vhsBQ preset:
Convolution3D (0, 32, 128, 16, 64, 10, 0)
###############################################
MSharpen(25,100,true,false,false)
#LanczosResize(576,432)
LanczosResize(384,288)
*************************************************************************************
It looks perfect with asv2, but picvideo... I`m not sure.
Thanks for reading, thanks to Ivo, again, and to you Mijo.

Please, follow the forum rules. Thanks. I don't think that anyone wants to read the croatian answers from some newsgroups. Not even me, who understands it :D .
Good night,
