Alternative to CCE and TMPG?

Is there a free alternative to CCE and TMPG?

Does DVD2SVCD support such a free alternative?

There's (yet) no free mpeg2 encoders which can compete with TMPGEnc or CCE. So, no dvd2svcd doesn't support any (yet). Besides CCE and TMPGEnc, the only other encoder that might be supported in the near future is Canous Procoder, which does a very good job on DV AVI's.

Nope, that is only for converting DV AVI's to a freeware codec, like Canopus Codec. Besides, I wont promise that I will support ProCoder. It might not be possible to remote control like I control CCE or TMPGEnc.

Canopus Pro Coder 1.2 is over $600...nice cuz it allows you to stitch together various sources. But in the end though for SVCDs and DVDs (mpeg2) all it is using is the $79 Ligos LSX MPEG Encoder ligos.com. I remember trying ligos out a couple years ago and it was pure crap..guess times have changed. I'm testing it out with dv material now.

I no longer use that canopus coder converter to convert dv type 1 to dv type 2. You can capture from your DV camcorder directly to dv type 2 using dvio freeware 32k

REMPEG is free and does a decent job. It's not CCE quality, but it is free.

I can remember in my early days of using FlaskMPEG to backup DVD's to VCD and SVCD, I used the included FREE bbMPEG. Quality was good but not as good as TMPGenc though. But it is free and already included in the DVD2SVCD package.

yes, I'm quoting myself. I can't find the thread..but somebody said that Canopus Pro Coder no longer using the Ligos MPEG Encoder. Can someone verify or point me to that thread.
