I have a DVR-104 with hacked 1.40 firmware 2Xforall. I have burned 200+ Ritek G03's all at 2X without error, love it. I've heard people say they could not burn at 1X with this firmware, but mine works fine. However my cheap unreliable Princo DVD-RW's quit working after 1.40 firmware, after erasing the discs are unusable. So I tried a sample pack of DVD-R/DVD-RW from "DVD-RW Media.com". Here are my results.

2 pieces SUPERMEDIA: Will not burn at 2X. Nero reports "power calibration error" every time, both discs, weird never seen this before. I did not try 1X yet.

2 pieces DVDPRO: ADVDInfo says they are Princo's. Burned perfect at 2X and played fine on Panasonic and APEX PLAYERS. Copied back to hard drive fine too.

2 pieces Optodisc: Burned perfect at 2X and played fine on Panasonic and APEX players. Copied back to hard drive fine too.

2 pieces Ritek: This was a shocker, ADVDInfo and Nero both do not even recognize the media (both discs). This still is my favorite brand. I've bought 400 of these suckers and they all have been very high quality.

2 pieces Optodisc DVD-RW: These discs work perfect. No data errors, erase fine. Looks like my old Princo's are junk (I already knew this). Anyone want to buy a pile of Princo DVD-RW's I bought ~6 months ago?

I might buy more Optodics if the price is right. Riteks have raised their price lately. I'm afraid of the name "Princo" even though the DVDPRO discs worked perfect.

What's your results???? Speak up please!!

Can you please cut and paste the Advinfo read for your above media?

I would like to compare to the Princo DVD-R I get here:

My 2 from a sample pack performed well and I ordered a 100 piece spindle.

I just cracked my new 100 pack of Riteks G03's. They will not burn at 2X (power calibration errors). Burn at 1X good. Here is the info:

This is 1X only media I just bought

This sucks!!!

Did some expermenting with "Nero CD Speed". I have 3 different DVD's in my computers. The fastest is my Lite-On (8X), if a DVD-R was burned bad the graphed output shows it on this DVD-ROM, it does not like DVD-R's. My next fastest is my Toshiba (6X), it likes DVD-R's and graphs stright lines on most all DVD-R's. I found the Ritek, DVDPRO, and OPTODISC are all about the same quality when burned at 2X and graphed on the Lite-On. They all start to fail (error correction or retrys kicks in?) at different speeds, dropping the transfer rate. When the Riteks where burned at 1X you get a perfect straight graph line from 4X to 8X (start to end).

I only had 2 of the OPTODISC & DVDPRO test discs, and they all where burned at 2X. But it looks like to me that the DVDPRO's had the best graphed lines on the Lite-On.

Anyone else have any info about OPTODISC & DVDPRO's????

Seraphic,

After doing ghaph testing on the media, I'm with you. I'm ordering 100 DVDPRO from supermediastore (Yahoo shopping). $65 USD with free shipping. It graphs better then Ritek on my 2 test samples at 2X. I'll use these when I need to burn at 2X, however from now on I'm going to burn at 1X when ever possible.
