This may belong in the newbies section but I thought here would be a good spot. I recently made a DivX 5 copy of Saving Private Ryan while helping a friend test his new DRU-500. However the .avi I made is HUGE! 3.4GB!!
I was wondering if there was a way I could use Nandub or something else to reencode this .avi to shrink it down to about 1.4GB or so. If I can please let me know how.
Thanks :D

GKnot 0.27 will handle AVI's just as well as any .d2v.

or DVX, it does even the demuxing for you, I've updated the screenshots yesterday with features I added recently. The final version is not available yet but it's near and a test version can be downloaded already.

Ok... so I just open the .avi in GKnot, change the file size, & reduce the resolution a bit. Then just hit encode & save like normal?
um... sounds a bit too easy but I'll give it a shot :p
Also I have GKnot 2.6, will that work just as good or do I really need 2.7?

0.27 is needed. v0.26 does not handle anything but .d2v.

you're doing the same thing as any other rip, only this time your source material is a DivX5 video stream instead of MPEG2 (DVD). as for the resolution settings in GKnot, make sure you set 'pixel aspect' to 1:1 (the AVI you've encoded has square pixels, not 16:9 or 4:3). if you don't do this, your AR will be very messed up.
