Hi out there!
I'm a bit confused concerning that bitrate stuff and have some questions.
- what is better? CBR,VBR,CQ
- and which bitrates to use for DVD-BackUp by DVD2SVCD(TMPGEnc).?
To explain, I've made some SVCD's by now and they were of a pretty good quali. But by now for some movies (e.g. Matrix) during fast motion scenes the movie stutters a little bit and there is some pixel confusion around some edges. It was encoded under the SVCD-Specs with 2 audio trax with 128 Bitrate. Today I've tried the same with a trailer using :
Max: 2600
Min: 700
Min avg: 1600
Max avg: 2400
VBR
and diabled the total bitrate warning.
The resulting mpg had the same problem as my movies before.
Can anyone explain this to me or recommend a suitable guide or website?
Thanx in advance

CBR is to be used if you're going to encode at the max allowed bitrate, say 2520kbps for SVCD (with 192kbps audio) or 9800kbps for DVD (with 256kbps audio).

Now, if the targeted bitrate is pretty lower than the respective max bitrates, let's say, 2300kbps or lower for SVCD and 8000kbps or lower for DVD, you better use 2-pass VBR.

Never use CQ.

The soundbitrate should never go under 192kbps. SVCD is no good with 2 audiostreams: the audio will suffer or the video will suffer ;)
