why when encoding or even direct stream copying do i get slow fps? what could cause that? im getting like 16-25 fps during direct stream copy and about half that if i encode into divx.. im working w/ tv caps 720x480 29.97fps Huffyvu..
i have two systems.. runs about the same on both.
System1:
WinXP
1Gig PCI133
1.4Ghz AMD
7200rpm 8 and 2mb cashe hd's
System two:
Win2000
2Ghz P4
256mb 266 memory
400/533 Intel motherboard
7200rpm 2mb cashe USB2.0 hd

anything i could do to improve the fps?
thanks

For Direct Stream Copy that is insanely slow (should be higher than 700fps), but for encoding that is about right. During encoding, it all depends on the filters used (more filters, slower).

When doing DSC, make sure it's not doing any audio processing. Also, ensure DMA is enabled on your hard drives. Doing all the work on 1 drive can slow it down too, but not to the point you're saying. Sounds like something isn't setup right when you DSC.

i have udma-5 set.. are there any settings i could optimize in vdub that could improve speed? or even to my system that would help things?
Thanks

You could try the avi output buffering in the performance options and see if it helps. Also try to and from diffent hds to locate your problem.
