In the thread concerning xvid bad frames, it has been mentioned that using the ffdshow filter will allow playback of xvid encoded video without crashes at bad frames. This also leaves the file unchanged.

If you want to keep the clip as it is and watch it anyways, use the ffdshow filter instead of the XVID Dshow Filter. Ffdshow just doesn't care for bad frames and keeps on playing.

I am not clear by what is meant by "use the ffdshow filter instead of the xvid dshow filter" Is this just a playback filter? How does one "use" ffdshow? By simply installing ffsdhow from the downloads section of this website?

Also, will installing this ffdshow filter affect encoding? I have gordian knot installed and am worried about the codecs and/or applications being affected. I have heard that multiple installationas of codecs such as Nimo's pack can really mess things up. When attempting to install ffdshow, there quite a few codecs listed.

Finally, will this ffdshow filter also allow playback of divx past the bad frames as well?

Thanks for taking the time to read this verbose post if you took the time.

ffdshow is a very nice directshow filter. It decoded and post-processes during video playback. It's easy to uninstall if you don't like and you can choose which codecs it should default to playing back.

You can find the latest builds here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

It won't mess up your gordian knot encodes or anything else because it is not an encoding codec. Just a decoding directshow filter.

I'm not sure how it handles bad divx frames. I think it's an excellent utility and definately worth the short download to try.

And one uses it by configuring (you can do it easily through the start menu) and setting the codecs you want ffdshow to use :)

Use the search button to find more info out :)
