Greetings gang.
I'm not really sure if this is a right place to post this kind of question (don't mean any trouble to anyone!), but I guess I'll give it a shot.
My system is really low spec: Intel Celeron 300A, with Voodoo3 3000 (earlier RivaTNT, but I found earlier to be better), and decent amount of RAM. While it does play most of movies correctly, I'd still love to push it, for I can find movies which wont play.. get out of synch and stuff.
So I started fiddling with all the settings I could find, and then came across Video Renderer settings (right click on movie, properties, advanced, Video Renderer). And a bunch of settings there were, like:
* YUV flipping
* RGB flipping
* YUV overlays
* RGB overlays
* YUV offscreen
* RGB offscreen
* DDraw primary
and then some more in Performance tab.
Well, as I dont have all that much knowledge in low level video stuff, I just started experimenting. And found out, that at least for one particular rip, these settings gave the best performance:
display settings:
16 bit colors
ffdshow settings:
overlay mixer: UNCHECKED
output colorspace: YUY2 (ONLY)
video renderer properties:
YUY flipping: UNCHECKED
YUY overlays: CHECKED
YUY offscreen: UNCHECKED
DDraw primary: CHECKED
enable scan line checked: UNCHECKED
check for hardware overlay limitations: UNCHECKED
disable mode changes: UNCHECKED
By performance I mean the audio video was in synch, played smooth, visuals were OK, and I could easily switch between fullscreen/window modes (there were some other combos which played find, but screwed up when switching).
Now, I wonder if someone could enlighten me what do those settings actually do, and if there is an even better combo? I tried searching the net, but found myself in MSDN, reading a document which stated that "YUV flipping. (Can turn on or off.)" (doh!).
If this isnt a place to ask such questions, then I'd love to be given a suggestion where to proceed :)
Thanks!
