Xvid Mpeg4 compliant

I was under the impression that both Xvid and Divx5 were supposed to be compliant with the mpeg4 standards. Am i wrong?

I'm not sure but I think that there are problems with the Divx 5 advanced features like gmc and q-pel. I think they aren't mpeg4 compliant.
The stable XviD builds should be mpeg4 compliant but there's quite a big chance that the unstable builds aren't. So don't use them if you want mpeg4 compliant files.

Sounds as if you'e heard about the dvd standalone player Kiss DP450. This one accepts MPEG4 videos, but only if they do not use B-Frames, QPel or GMC.
The MPEG4 standard has got different layers and profiles. One of them is called "Advanced, simple profile". This one does not contain B-Frames, QPel or GMC, and that is the one supported by the Simga MPEG4 decoder chip, which is found in dvd standalone players like the Kiss.
Other profiles of the MPEG4 standard do contain these features. So a video encoded with QPel can be MPEG4 compliant (if the codec stores it in the right way), but not "MPEG4, advanced, simple profile"-compliant.

Actually what i'm trying to do is put some videos on my cellphone. Been forced to use mpegable right now since i never managed to get Xvid to work on it.

Are there any restrictions for the cellular about the video, like maximum data rate or about the sound format? What does the technical documentation of it say about this?

As far as i can see it supports the advanced simple profile.

Says "Simple Visual Profile Level 0" and AAC, AMR sound. It's all in there. Are you sure you are multiplexing the MP4 properly?

Can I assume you read the part about 176x144 @15fps max bit?

Sorry Marcel but this is wrong. B-frames (b), qpel (q) and GMC (g) are all part of Advanced Simple Profile (ASP).

ASP = SP + b + q + g
Sigma = SP + b = ASP - q - g
DivX4 = SP
DivX5 = ASP
xvid = ASP

It's a bit misleading for Sigma to call their chip ASP. It is not ASP because it can't decode GMC and qpel. Their chip is SP. It's a bit like saying you have a "motorcycle (without engine)" when you only really have a bicycle.

B-frames are supported by both DP 450 and Neuston DVX 1201 ( both use SIGMA EMM 8500 ), QPel and GMC not ...

long time no see :). Any thoughts about this (http://golem.de/0301/23630.html)MPEG4-player (article in German only)? Seems to me they themselves don't know what chip works inside of their import from China. The case looks like a 'RedStar' design. The pricing would be interesting, though, if all this is for real.

i have been using mpegable for ages now and no complaints. The x4 live software works fine (i am on xp now). btw their directshow filter has finally got a seek function now, which helps.

I contacted them to find out more about the player. If it can play AVIs ( they are just talking about 'DivX movies' .. lol ) i will buy it to check it out.

Interesting enough, it can play AAC and WMA audio also :D !!
