This is a problem I'm having on my standalone. It works fine on the computer. The movie is O Brother Where art thou. I've already resampled the movie, so here is what the first two sets look like:
File Name Size
-------------- ---------------
VIDEO_TS.BUP 28,672
VIDEO_TS.IFO 28,672
VIDEO_TS.VOB 159,744
VTS_01_0.BUP 73,728
VTS_01_0.IFO 73,728
VTS_01_0.VOB 149,504
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,073,565,696
VTS_01_2.VOB 1,073,565,696
VTS_01_3.VOB 144,449,536
VTS_02_0.BUP 30,720
VTS_02_0.IFO 30,720
VTS_02_0.VOB 15,247,360
There are more sets, but these are what should really concern us. VTS_01 is obviously the movie. VTS_02 is the menu. I've deleted VTS_02_1.vob. It was lame coming attractions that ran at the beginning of the movie before the menu would come up. My problem is this: The movie starts and plays the touchstone logo, and then it just stops. If I hit the menu button it goes there, but it doesn't do it automatically. What the real dvd does is, after the touchstone logo, it starts playing vts_02_1.vob, the coming attractions, which I deleted. I did get vts sectors, but still no dice.
How do I tell the dvd to go straight to the menu? Thanks guys.

I'm just trying to visualize what you are saying. VTS_02 is the menu? Are you saying that if you viewed your VOB-IDs in VTS_02_0.IFO/VMG Overview/Menu Language Units, you'll see your main movie menu, chapter selections, and language menus.? Your VTS_01_0.VOB seems pretty big for not having these menus in it. Please confirm where your main menus reside in.
Normally, main menus reside in the same titleset as your movie but there are cases that it can be in another. Van Wilder Unrated is a good example. The movie was in Titleset 5 but the menus were in Titleset 1.
By the way, what happens when you put one of these commands into your VIDEO_TS.IFO/VMGM_MAT/First Play PGC/PGC Command Table?
-------------------------------------
1. Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 01 83 00 00 ]
--------------------------------------
1. Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 02 83 00 00 ]

Ok, i tried out what you're talking about, and I'm learning a little more.
First about your questions. VTS_02 is in fact the menu. I open VTS_02_0.VOB in dvd2avi and i can see all the menus and transitions.
VTS_01_0.VOB, when opened in dvd2avi is a screen that says SPRUCE and has the logo and everything. All the VTS_0X_0.VOB's are this way.
I went down to try changing the first play PGC like you suggested. Your first suggestion, vts 1 ttn 1, is how it was originally. I changed the vts to 2, and now when it starts up it goes straight to the movie. This is better than before...but would still prefer the menu to come up. Any ideas?

In the future instead of ripping them out with IFOEdit try replacing the VOB's with new ones that you create using blank files you can find on Trilights website. This way you keep the structure in tact, but loose all, but 3 seconds of blank video.
You can find them on the tips and tricks section of trilights website. Just search out a post by him the website is in his sig.

I'm not sure it is that easy though. I've created new vobs using maestro many times and used ifoupdate to replace the originals...but this dvd is different. VTS_02_0.VOB contains all the menus, and VTS_02_1.VOB contains previews. If I delete VTS_02_1.VOB and do get vts sectors, it hangs when it should start playing the previews. If I replace VTS_02_1.VOB with a dummy vob, it sits there and plays a blank screen for what seems like the length of the previews.
So to sum up, how do I replace VTS_02_1.VOB without affecting the menus in VTS_02_0.VOB? I can't just make new vob's in dvdmaestro, and then run ifoupdate, so what do I do?
Thanks for being patient with me, I appreciate it. btw, why won't maestro let me import the audio fills on trilight's website?

Assuming you have a NTSC region 1 DVD, here is the edit you need to solve your problem at last. I tested it on my Region 1 DVD and it works.
Important note: You must retain at least (VTS_03_0.IFO & VTS_03_0.BUP) or (VTS_04_0.IFO & VTS_04_0.BUP). You will get a "Get SubPictureslanguage Failed" warning. This is probably why you have play stoppage.
If you opt to keep VTS_03_0.IFO and VTS_03_0.BUP, it is safe to delete your VTS_03_*.VOBs and your whole titleset 4. Same concept goes for keeping VTS_04_0.IFO and VTS_04_0.BUP. It is also safe to delete your VTS_02_1.VOB which contained your trailers.

What else are you keeping or not keeping from this movie?

Ok, this is interesting. I decided to just keep vts sets 3 and 4 completely for now.
I added the precommand you gave me. What it does is play the fbi warning, the touchstone logo, and then it goes to a black screen again. It starts to play the menu music though, which is odd. Could it be going to the menu but not displaying it? btw, here is a list of all the files i have in the directory.

And one more thing...this is a standalone problem only. Using PowerDVD it plays fine. It does the fbi warning, touchstone logo, then the menu pops up. Only on my standalone does it screw up. Not sure if that helps or not.

@nathan118@yahoo.com,
I need to ask some straightforward questions. We have some obvious differences between our files. Now...
Is your "ORIGINAL" DVD, the one you bought from the store, a NTSC Region 1 DVD? Look on the DVD itself to verify.
Are the files you've shown in your post, the original files off your DVD. Have you re-authored?
Does you O Brother, Where Art Thou? NTSC , Region 1, DVD cover looks exactly like this? h**p://video.go.com/obrother/
Does it say "Stock #21654" on your ORIGINAL DVD?
Now I burnt my backup and it works. If you have a different DVD, then let me know.
Here's my 5 movie VOBs right off the original DVD. Nothing is stripped.
VTS_01_1.VOB (1,073,577,984 GB)
VTS_01_2.VOB (1,073,577,984 GB)
VTS_01_3.VOB (1,073,577,984 GB)
VTS_01_4.VOB (1,073,577,984 GB)
VTS_01_5.VOB (699,993,792 GB)
You have only 3 VOBs in your last post.
VTS_01_1.VOB (1,073,565,696 GB)
VTS_01_2.VOB (1,073,565,696 GB)
VTS_01_3.VOB (144,449,536 GB)
I have 59 files total present on mine and I counted 55 on yours.
See the difference?
nathan118@yahoo.com

Yes it's region 1 and looks like that link.
I already resampled and replaced the original like I said in my very first post.
59 original files....less 2 files due to a resampled main movie, less VTS_02_1.VOB (previews from the beginning of the movie), less VTS_09_1.VOB, VTS_10_1.VOB, VTS_11_1.VOB (previews from the bonus seciton).
That would be six files...giving me 53 total files, not 55 like you counted.
Other than removing the above files, ALL that I have done is resample the movie, create new vob's with dvdmaestro, and reincorporate them back into the movie, and then use get vts sectors of course.
Now that the big mystery of our file differences is cleared up...any new ideas?

Well hot dog....I re-read what you said up top about this:
In VIDEO_TS.IFO/VMGM_MAT/First Play PGC/PGC Command Table, edit as follows.
OLD > 4.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 01 83 00 00 ]
NEW > 4.Pre Command (JumpSS VMGM) Jump to VMG PGC: 7 [30 06 00 07 00 c0 00 00 ]
and I realized I wasn't replacing that 4th command, but adding a new 5th command. I fixed it and works great in the standalone. It doesn't like it when I push the menu button in any of the sub menus, but i can just disable that. Thanks, you rule.
But I have to know, where did you get the PGC: 7 info from?

I'm glad you found your error.:D You had me worried there.;) As for VMG PGC 7, I studied and followed the navigations. Sometimes I monitor the GPregs. I'm too tired right now to go into details but that's pretty much it.
