trying to understand dvd structure

crikey i didn't know that this backing up game could be so difficult. I could do with some help regarding dvd structure. I have spent hours reading forum posts and while i have made some progress there feels like a bloody long way to go. Had some success at backing up x-files series one to dvd (plenty of coasters for various reasons )using the "splitting guide on doom9" but of course that is now not enough (the human condition). What i am struugling over in particular are VOD Id's. I have tried using VOBRATOR but it crashes like hell (Xp Pro).Does it work better in 2000Pro? Tried using dvd2avi but it seems to whiz through everything too quickly. Would like to be able to get rid of end credits, copyright stuff, intros etc.cheers for any help
