I am trying to split my Star Trek DVDs (Next Gen) and am hitting some snags. Discs 2 and 4 will rip, then won't split correctly using IFOEdit's Split to 2 DVD option. IFOEdit always crashes out. My question is - if I take the long route and demux and re-encode with TMPEG, I wind up with an M2V and AC3 file for each episode. Here's the question: what DVD authoring software will reassemble these elementary streams? It seems all the software I have access to wants WAV files, and doesn't like AC3 files. Is there something simple to use (like MyDVD) that recognizes AC3 files?

U said it yourself. MyDVD, other options, ifoedit (free! :) ), Scenarist, Maestro, SpruceUp, ReelDVD ...

OK, but if I use IFOEdit to make VOBs out of each episode (from the M2V and AC3 files), then what authoring program will accept a VOB file instead of an MPG file? I could conceivably make a VOB for each episode, and an buttons for a menu. Then, which authoring program would I be able to make a menu in to trigger the different VOB for each episode? None of the software I've toyed with will accept a VOB file. They all want MPG or M2V.

All authoring progs I am aware of demand elementary streams of audio and video to work with. That is u must have video as m2v or audio as ac3, wav.
Inside the authoring programm u will combine all the elements together and define your menu. If u don't work for a company that can supply you with a scenarist or Maestro workstation u have to be resourceful.
Do u have a Piooneer dvdrecorder? They supply u the low end authoring program of Sonic MyDVD.
Edit -----
This is the only program I know of that accepts an avi and encodes it to m2v.
