DiVX5Enc 1.11 and comp test with divx 5.0.3

hi

i've tried to do a comp test with divx 5.0.3 codec and this new release of divx5enc but i get a 109%!! the film was matrix and i want to do a 2cd rip with ac3 audio... resolution was 640x256 and b-frames activeted and bitrate 1093... (comp test done on 5% of the total film)

is it possible?

p.s.: another question... in this program when i encode a film do i have to select "fast recompress" or not?

Sure, anything is possible. I'd suggest using 704x288 instead and you'll see that the % goes down. Or use with one CD instead of two. And you should most definitely select fast recompress.

now it's encoding at 640x256 with fast recompress, b-frames and gmc... in 5 pass encoding! i removed the b-frames for the comp test and it was 80,9%... probably it didn't work fine with b-frames activated...

It work fine with b-frames enabled
b-frames help a lot in the compressibility field.

I hope that the sticky thread where i describe the manual method don't confuse people about b-frames.

The manual method is not accurate with b-frames

DivX 5 Enc method and GKnot methods are really accurate with b-frames

another question: is it normal that it needs about 1 hour and 45 minutes to do every pass? gknot does every pass in about 1h 20min...

i don't understand... it encodes about 30fps

1 Encode a movie at quality based 100% with b-frames.
2 Encode the same movie at quality based 100% without b-frames.

The encode 1 will take less space to put the movie at almost the same quality of 2.

That's why you have this difference.

You are using 2 different codecs now: 5.0.2 and 5.0.3
You should compare the speed with divx5enc 1.10 & 5.0.2 (never done this test :))
