Strange Error

Well never had this before ...but i am encoding saving p** ry**....Pal R2 ....its my first pass.....all the settings are as they should be (CCE-IFO-edit guide)....however CCE starts ....then ....i don't know exactly when ...but probably after 60 or 70 % it gives me the error that there is not enough space... uuhhh...strange is that when it stops there is still 16 gigs of free space ..and overall there is 20 gigs of space before i even start my first pass on the hdd.....i am clueless......strange is that i encoded another movie yesterday and all was fine!!!! I don't get it ....i wonder wether my d2v file might be corrupt or something!!!! What i also realized is that when this occurs the mpv file is also around 4 gigs ...that is kinda strange with a first pass...normally i always get around the 2,5 gigs and stuff with the normal settings.......So i am guessing that this is probably an fat32 problem since you can only go upto 4 gigs per file as a limit on file size...the thing is that how can it be over 4 gigs with the first pass....anyone else also had it over 4 gigs with the first pass.....Anyone had this problem before!!!

The reason might be that saving p** ry** is a long movie, approx 3hrs with a lot of hand held and shaky camera shots which require a lot of bitrate to encode, even on a first pass VBR encode of Q=60 you may pass the 4 gig fat32 file size limit. ( Im assuming your using a method based on robshots 'getting the best out of cce', the guides page has been updated and I couldnt find the CCE-IFO-edit guide) In any case keep your average bitrate below ~ 2.9Mbs or you'll exceed the 4 gig limit.

I am wondering instead of doing a frist pass ....can i just directly do a multiple pass vbr......and that way keep the file size below 2.9.......do you really have to do a first pass before you can go to a multiple pass vbr????

No, you don't have to do a first pass, if you want to do a multipass VBR encode you can, The advantage of a constant Q VBR single pass encode is CCE generates the .vaf and the .mpv files in one pass. If you do a VBR pass ( with min, max and average bitrate settings ) CCE will initially create the .vaf file on the first pass and then create the .mpv file on subsequent passes.
