Ok...so I have this SVCD here and its aspect ratio is squished. The svcd aspect ratio is 2.35:1 but the movie is only supposed to be 1.85:1. Apparently someone can't rip. Well anyways, here is my question. Is there anyway this aspect ratio can be fixed and I can stretch the picture back out to its proper aspect ratio with re-encoding?

thanks in advance

I've never had to do this, but I think I can offer a few suggestions to get you going. Ross McLennon has a web page at http://www.geocities.com/aussie01au/index.html where he has some info on widescreen SVCDs. I remember that he has some descriptions on how to make them and what causes them to display incorrectly. You could probably figure out what's going on from his web page and fix it. The Teco Bit Rate viewer at http://www.tecoltd.com has some options that let you change various things in demuxed MPEG video streams. You can change the setting from 16x9 to 4x3, etc., and then remux. You have to buy the commercial one, which is about 29 Euros. The free one doesn't have this functionality. Ross also hangs out at the SVCD forum at http://network54.com/Hide/Forum/70438 and if you posted there, there is probably a good chance he or someone else could help you with this problem.

Pulldown.exe can change the aspect ratio in a SVCD mpg as well, and that is free. Its very easy to do with the gui, though I'm not sure this will fix your problem.

It may just be that the SVCD is in 16:9. Most dvd players do not properly interpret this flag in a SVCD and the aspect ratio is off as a result. Changing it to 4:3 might solve the problem.

k i foudn the pulldown gui except i tried all the aspect ratios and nothing changes. That pic is what the video looks like...stretched. ITs 2.35:1 but the movie is supposed to be 1.85:1. Anyone know how I can chagne the proporitons of the video to fix ti?

thanks

The only way to correct that is the re-encode the movie in the correct aspect ratio. Since it's letterboxed, on playback, there is no way of fixing it, short of stretching your dvd software. (TV wont correct it at all.) Just remove the black bars and re-encode at the correct height.

Yes I want to do that...I just don't know exactly how to do this. How do I go about removing black bars and picking a new aspect ratio? pls help
