Hi,

Considering the hype about this tool in different forums and particularly the DVD Encoding forum, wouldn't it be good to have a DVD2one dedicated forum, a bit like there is a DVD2SVCD forum ? It is clear that there are 2 very different kinds of members here, those who want to quickly copy movies and those who want to understand the what's behind DVD encoding and authoring. Wouldn't it help to split both "communities" so everybody finds his marbles again? I for myself would like to see something else for a change than "DVD2One is great !" or "that's the tool I 've ever dreamt of !" or (worse) "I've copied 6 movies in 8 hours with this tool"... in the DVD encoding and DVD authoring sections, since I don't have too much interest in this tool and it seems lots of members here don't either.

What do you mods (and others) think ? I certainly don't mean to put dvd2one fans on the side, but just clarify the forums.

It might be a good idea to pull all the posts from various forums together. It's interesting how people view the program. I, for one, am not interested in a simple program like this, but I am interested in how it performs the transcoding.
And even die-hard CCE/Scenarist users are coming up with interesting ways to utilize DVD2One as a transcoder with predictable file sizes (see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44978 )

I saw this too.

Now I have nothing against the tool in itself, and it certainly can be put to good use (quick backups for most often watched DVDs, integration into more complex processes, ...). All my respect to the guys who wrote the piece of software since it is fast, light, easy to use and really well thought.

But I wouldn't like to see too many posts about how easy it is to "rent and copy" movies with this, disseminated all over the forums, like the one I saw the other day (which was, according to me, violating rules here).
This is likely to attract the attention of some "MPAA-like authority" and may have desastrous effects on this forum, where most experimented members are in fact not really interested in copying, but rather in learning and mastering the difficult DVD authoring process.

That's why I think putting all DV2one related threads into one single forum will help to sort out good from bad, and will also allow DVDD2one fans to find their information more easily.

As for examining how DVD2One performs transcoding, this would be extremely interesting, but I severely doubt you'll get the sources ;)
and not even theoretical explanations from the creators (after all the stuff is not for free).

We believe the theory behind its transcoding is explained at the links in this thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44321
These transcoding algorithms were developed for the broadcast and cable industry for real time bitrate reduction.

there's now a special forum for the program but I reserve the right to add other programs based on the same transcoding principles to it once they are relased (instantcopy for once, and int21h's transcoding project if it really takes off).
