Lets say I have a bunch of Vobs either from a) different chapters from a bunch of movies. b) 2 sets of vobs from 2 short movies under 60 minutes each. c) Vobs of a movie and lets say a trailer or really short extra movie which totals under 120 minutes (vobs total under 4.7GB).

What if I wanted to combine these vobs so that they just play one after the other. For scenario a) its like a demo disk with all your favorite chapters/scenes. For b) if you have short movies to backup to a single DVD, just play chapters one after the other. c) if you kept the main movie only and you still have space to spare on a DVD-R so you would like to add a thing or two that would just play (next chapter) after the main movie.

step#1
Can I just name the VOBs sequencially starting with vts_01_1.vob, vts_01_2.vob, vts_01_3,.........up to vts_01_10? 10 is the max number of VOBs right? If I have more than 10 I have to use VOBedit to join them right? I start with vts_01_1 not vts_01_0 right?

step#2
Now I have only my vob files in a folder. Use IfoEdit to "create Ifos". IfoEdit will create the vts_01_0 and video_ts.ifo and corresponding .bup files.

step#3
Correct Nav pack pointers by opening vts_01_1.ifo in IfoEdit then click on VOB Extras then select "Correct Vob-Unit (Nav-Pack) pointers in VOB files." and "Correct original IFO files"

step#4
open the video_ts.ifo then "Get VTS sectors"

Does this seem accurate? I need your input please!
Thanks!

malou,

I hope I understood you correctly.

Use Spruceup to author your multi-titles (movies). Import each movie as a separate title. There is a guide here in Doom9 on using Spruceup. Then use this method in this link. Jolard pretty much had the same question, "How do I play my separate movies consecutively?"

2COOL thanks for the quick reply. I did check out the other link BUT I'm kinda BUT I知 kinda overwhelmed with all the new stuff already and if I have to learn how to use Spruce up right now, I think my brain cells will get fried! I'm also just starting to get familiar with IfoEdit and I think this would be a good project to explore and learn it better. Please don稚 get me wrong I知 sure that the SpruceUp approach is better than what I have listed here and I知 willing to learn it and use it in the near future. Plus my friend lent me his killer PC (compared to my piece of junk) for a week and I need to backup a lot of DVD as fast as I can. It really looks cool with all the options but I知 happy with a plain DVD with vobs playing one after the other.

Could please tell me if what I知 trying to do with IfoEdit would work or not? If its not then I really don稚 have a choice but learn how to use SpruceUp right?

Thanks so much!

malou,

I take it you haven't tried your method out yet. Well you have to remember, a IFO contains all your information about a specific title. Try looking into any movie's IFO/VMG Overview/Movie Titleset attributes section. If your combined mixmatch vobs into one title don't match what you see in your attributes, you'll have problems. Problems like combining 16:9 and 4:3 vobs together or audio not matching. It's going to be one or the other if they're going to be in the same titleset.

By preference, I would just use Spruceup to put those separate vobs in separate titles and use IFOedit to have them play consecutively. that way you don't have to worry about incompatibility.

A brief note on SpruceUp, it doesn't do subtitles and multi-audio. It does menus though if you want it or you can just have your DVD play upon insert. All you minimally need to is your VOB's m2v and ac3 streams in which VOBedit can demux them for you.

Yep, I haven't tried it yet. I wanted to get some input on the steps and find out if it would even work or not.

2Cool, I do not have any IFOs to begin with I just have the VOBs from the different sources. I figured I can create the Ifos for the "combined" VOBs. So would different aspect ratios and audio from the diffrent VOBs from diff. sources mess me up? I thought creating the Ifos from scratch would address this?

Thanks again!

2cool,

On a different scenario. What if the 2 short movies I'm combining are from the same company and even the same series, let say "joe no clue -part I" and "joe still no clue - part II". So the aspect ratio and audio are the same. Would it work for this since there will be no mixing of aspect ratios and audio. As in the other scenarios, I will only copy the main movie VOBs and nothing else. Rename the VObs so they are sequencial. Then create the IFOs.

Thanks!

Just having the movies from the same company or series doesn't necessary mean then they both have the same aspect ratio or audio. If those 2 short movies came from a DVD, you need to look at that DVD's IFO attributes for that movie. That would be the easy way. Since you don't have the IFOs for those movies, you could possibly use VOBedit and check your VOB info. Now I haven't done it but I believe you can. I'm not at my home computer to confirm that.

Have you created IFOs before? Because you need to select some options like chaptering on every cell. It probably would work out for you your "original" IFO had a chapter point on each cell. If you didn't, it'll be hard to correct your chapter entry points. Even IFOupdate needs your two different IFOs to update.

malou, IMHO, you should focus your time well on learning a working method. The SpruceUP/IFOedit method is a less-time consuming option you can do. I'm not twisting your arm on this. It's your call. You said you only had your friend's computer for a limited time.

malou,

I was going to PM you but you chose to disable your Private Messaging and recieving e-mails options. It can either work for you or work against you. I find I get alot information when others sent Private messages. Just a suggestion, just at least keep your Private message option enabled and if you find you are getting a lot of garbage, which I doubt, just disable it.;) You maybe losing out on the lot of valuable information from others right now.:(

2COOL, et. al.:
I'm experimenting with SpruceUp, with a similar task to what started this thread. How does one import a .vob asset? I'm working with .vob clips that have AC3 audio, which precludes my being able to manipulate them with an off-the-shelf program like ULEAD Video Studio, and I'd like to avoid getting tangled up with de/muxing, if possible. Thanks.
