After trawling through the forum I could only find audio references relating to aac and other advanced audio codings. My problem is based on an avi with mp3 audio,-when I try to convert it to an mpeg the file has no audio:(

Am I right in assuming that I need to 'rip' the audio and convert it?

Can/should I open the avi with nandub or virtualdub, then use the save wav settings in the file menu to save the audio in wav format, then use the wav file for an audio source and the original avi as the video source when using that TMPGenc prog? I noticed that the avi2vcd prog I have does not have this option, is it worth me keepin this programme?

God this shits complicated when ur thrown in the deep end!

Anyways hope sumone can help the illiterate one that is I!

Thanx in advance

Yeah, it is complicated. Welcome to the world of, "If this was easy, we'd be bored."

You don't say what AVI->VCD procedure you're using. If you're following Doom9's AVI2SVCD guide (well, DVD2SVCD with "AVI" selected as input) the application includes audio extraction, and, better still, produces a log. If you're using his TMPG guide, he includes conversion/extraction of VBR MP3 (or, actually, any MP3) to WAV as part of the process.

If you're trying to do it on your own, I recommend you stop, and pick an understood and known procedure. That way, when (not if, when) you get into trouble, someone else will understand what happened.

(Yes, you can extract any .mp3 or .ac3 soundtrack from .avi using Nandub's "Save WAV" though you will get WAV headers in front of the .mp3 or .ac3 data. Complex? Yep.)

Hi again! :)

Ye, I was trying to figure it out by myself. I was going to look at dooms avi to svcd guide but i wanted to make a normal vcd because I heard that they had better compatibility with standalone dvd players.

Is there a site which explains a avi to standard vcd procedure?

Again many thanx

The tools in the procedures can do both, for example, on DVD2SVCD's "Misc" tab, press "Load Settings" button and load the VCD-Settings file.
