Tweaking XP for Analogue Capture

First my apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum but I think this the closest to cover my question.

I have a Leadtek WinTV 2000 XP but my system has sort of been setup to do DVD2SVCD - But Im trying to capture analogue thru the card in single pass (its Kids video's only - only need medium quality) using Divx 5.0.3 at about 1200kbps @ 640x480. Its filesize is smaller than the "built-in" mpeg2 @ 2200kbps & the quality is sort of similiar.

What I would like to know is how best to Tweak-XP for Analogue > Divx in single pass (on the fly). - It may be dropping some frames or the Array cannot keep up the CPU doing overtime - Im not real sure- Does Divx like lots of system cache - I know it likes a fast CPU but are there any Registry settings that may help ???

My system - I have the latest drivers + SP1 on XP installed However Im using the default WinPVR for Capturing (is this a bad thing or is there something better?)

- Gigabyte 7ZXR with Athlon-XP @1720mhz (XP-2000+)
- 1.3gb sdram
- MX460 dual head video
- 2x40gb ide 7200 rpm Raid-0 (80gb array)
- 15gb ide 7200 rpm boot drive

Any advice or shortcuts on tweaking or advice would be appreciated - Im getting sick of trying a few hundred variables

Hello. Welcome to this board.

I've would not recommend direct lossy captures (there are many reasons, check the capture FAQ for a few)... Your system is fast enough to encode very fast. So, encode with Huffyuv or MJPEG and then reencode to the format you like. With such an monster machine it should be no problem at all.

Second, your system should have not problems at all for direct capturing (if you must do it), just be sure to follow the basic tweaking from the FAQ (and some XP tweakings with for instance XP anti spy). BTW, I even tested the WinPVR software (have a Leadtek Ti4200 ViVo) and it's quite ok . It does some "no,no" things, like deinterlacing (it seems), so if you want to do it in a good way don't use it and especially don't capture lossy. Take your time to read through the FAQ and use the search function, it'll pay off, believe me. For instance, I'm a DV newbie, now, and I'm more than happy for the DV FAQ's (and for Swan's help :) ) etc.
