Bit of a bitch here to get some attention perhaps from the developers. Bored of all the incompatabilities between players, codecs, filters etc. Maybe they should get together and workout some bugs ;)
VobSub 2.23 with DiVXG400 = DiVXG400 will not load. I sometimes prefer DiVXG400 for overscan purposes especially on subtitled anime. ffdshow's own black borders feature eats too much CPU on my lowly P2 700. DiVXG4000 uses little or no CPU to compensate for overscan on overlay TV output. In BSplayer (Any version) you usually have to set overlay mode to 'mode 1' to get DiVXG400 to load. In 'mode 2' it will not load for some reason. In 'mode 1' if VobSub loads it stops DiVXG400 from loading whatsoever. In Zoom Player if I set the filter to none then DiVXG400 will load but again if VobSub is called for, soft subs DiVXG400 will not load. I guess setting ZP's filter to none is the equivalent of 'mode 1' overlay?
VobSub 2.23 with Zoom Player 2.90 onwards using Zoom Players own filter mode and ffdshow 2003.01.03 build: when playing back a 702x407
DiVX3.11a clip with AC3 5.1 sound = Instant crash. No idea why but I can repeat it time and time again (Can provide clip if needed).
Xvid with buggy features like B frames and Qpel alongside ffdshow latest can cause issues. Usually get instant crashes unless I have ffdshow installed and set Xvid to unticked on install. Using latest unstable Koepi build and decoder from his page.
Setting Zoom Player (any version) to overlay mode = black & white on desktop and looks OK on TV out on Matrox G400 Max 32 DH. Setting ZP to SVCD filter also causes B&W on desktop and OK on TV out. Odd.
For every single DiVX/Xvid file I've had I have NEVER found a perfect playback solution. Each player, codec, filter provides some additional features that would make viewing more pleasurable.
However. There are so many inconsistencies/conflicts/bugs between each or in combination with one another that it's making every single file I wish to playback a pain in the ass. I'm having to fiddle with the settings of each player/codec/filter for each video file.
I wish to be able to do the following please. I do not think these are unreasonable.
1. Be able to playback DiVX3.11a/4.x/5.x/Xvid etc without crashes, display issues and other misc problems.
2. Be able to playback soft subs where appropriate without it interfering with everything else.
3. Be able to adjust the sizing on overlay TV output. Specifically to display anime subtitles with no overscan cutting the subs off the TV screen (If only there was a TV tool for Matrox. DiVXG400 was OK but the development has gone dead)
Everything like dual audio and special filter adjustments like sharpening etc are a bonus but not a requirement.
I only have 3 real wants and I cannot even get those to function 100% correctly most of the time.
I run WinXP Pro currently with SP1 and DX9. I don't know if they are an issue at all. I am using current Video card drivers. I've killed and deleted old codecs from my system and try to keep up to date with the latest builds of players, codecs and filters.
What am I doing wrong that I get all these problems? I don't know. All I know is that it's not much fun sitting here for hours trying to figure out why your player is crashing on one clip and not on another.
