... but does anyone know a freeware, decent, easy to use avi splitter? I have that Virtual Dub but its Far 2technical 4me! I have an avi (div3 code) file which is 700mb. Wanna put it on vcd but need to split it coz its too big!

Also, once I split it I was gonna put it straight into the nero wizard, let that convert it to mpeg and burn it to vcd. But I heard someone on a board advise against letting nero turn the split avi into an mpeg for quality reasons! Im cOnFused! Help anyone?!

Any help greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum! I hope you find it helpful.I have that Virtual Dub but its Far 2technical 4me!Well, a common tool for splitting .avi files is Nandub (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Encoders/MPEG4/nandub-binary-1.0rc2.rar). It can split by size, as you wish to do. Doom9 has a guide (http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm#Splitting) for splitting files with Nandub. Once you click on that link, search for "Splitting" as the link won't automatically jump down to it.

In addition, there's a Nandub front-end called AviSplitCalc (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/avisplit.zip), that can make splitting with Nandub even easier. Also, once I split it I was gonna put it straight into the nero wizard, let that convert it to mpeg and burn it to vcd. But I heard someone on a board advise against letting nero turn the split avi into an mpeg for quality reasons! Im cOnFused! That's because every re-encode of a "lossy" video format introduces additional degradation, even with using the best quality, most flexible tools. And the MPEG-1 encoder built into Nero is not the most flexible, or best solution, merely the fastest. It is a single pass encoder, you have no choice in resizing methodology, etc. You will not like the resulting video. Instead, try following one of Doom9's guides, there are two for converting AVI to VCD in this link (http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm).

I know you're new, but please be aware of rule #1:1) Read up before asking! There are tons of guides, FAQs and each forum has a dedicated Q&A thread with additional info.

1a) Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.

sorry bout that rule thing, didnt know bout it I'm shocked. I think you had to confirm reading them to get your userid. But be that as it may, you will find a link (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) at the top of every page. I recommend you review all the rules ... since you seem to have missed them. Your post actually violated a few more of them, such as:2) Respect the netiquette: Lurk and get to know the forum before you post.

9) Use a title that describes the content of your post.... so please review them. know where I can get a zip copy of that nandub, everywhere I look has them .rar formats! , no, but here's http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar311.exe
