View Full Version : No sound after Converting avi to SVCD

I've just tried converting an avi (XVID, Mp3 VBR) to SVCD using the latest build of DVD2SVCD. However, the final muxed mpeg file has no sound.

I've also tried to extract the audio from the original avi with Nandub. The wav produced though also has no sound.

The avi file has sound though, and playsback ok. Any idea what the problem is?

i would try to use vdub instead of nandub to extract the wav. this error seems very weird.

Well, I just went back to an earlier version of DVD2SVCD and tried converting, and I've now got sound.

I got the same problem with the latest release of DVD2SVCD.
To witch version did you go back? Would be a great help.

Most often when there is no sound one of the following is true.

1. The original sound is mono.
2. The original sound is VBR MP3
3. The original AVI is corrupt, even if it doesn't seem so.

Right now I know of no way to work with problem 1.

Problems 2 and 3 sometimes can be altered or fixed within Vdub. Basically I just demux and remux the AVI in Vdub and it seems to fix the problem more then not.

Give Vdub a shot.

but I thought vdub doesn't deal well with mp3's and that's when nandub is used? wouldn't i get out of sync using vdub?

I tried to extract the wav and then mux it again with the movie. I then had a DivX3 low motion avi and a PCM wav in one avi-file.

This i loaded in DVD2SVCD and started it. The extracted audio from DVD2SVCD contains sound but not the encoded one.

Any ideas now?

Did DVD2SVCD poped up a message saying that it had to change the frame rate?

Well, no that message didn't pop up, but I activated 'NTSC to PAL' because the source is 23,976 FPS and I need a PAL VCD.
And it would be great if the VCD header trick (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42406) would be an option --> I really want to encode MPEG2 SVCD

I tried to leave the 'NTSC to PAL' switch and convert it as is, and now it works.
Isn't that a problem for the bug report?

forget what i said last. actually there was sound, but only at the beginning, then after everal minutes the sound was just gone :(
