View Full Version : Can I improve my RAM?

I'm hoping someone very knowledgable of RAM can help me out here. I'm trying to figure out if I can improve my system speed by upgrading my RAM (mainly with CCE).

Here is what I currently have:

Motherboard:
Soyo P4VSA Socket 478
Motherboard w/ Intel Pentium 4 1.60GHz CPU

RAM:
256MB PC133 NON ECC DIMM CL3 CHA
(3 sticks installed)

I am told that the best RAM I can put in it is PC133. I am wondering if there is a "better" PC133 RAM out there? The RAM I am using (above) is a couple years old. Also it is non-ECC, whatever that means...

Any help appreciated.

ECC is error correction code and is used mainly for mission-critical machines (servers, etc.) This would not improve the speed of your machine.

You could "slightly" improve the speed of your memory by buying lower latency RAM but IMO I do not think the results would justify the cost. I'd save up for a system upgrade (motherboard/cpu, along with newer RAM technology e.g., DDR Ram) instead.

The other suggestion I have is to check out overclocking your machine. I'm no expert on this but I'm sure you could find some information on this by searching on google.

SDRAM PC133 is the best memory you can use on that mainboard.cannot change it to DDR or Rambus, unless you change the mainboard as well.
