Hi All,

Wondering if anyone out there can give me a pointer or two about how to correct my 'divxing'?

I'm shooting for a 2 pass, 2*700MB encode of a 1-1/2 hour DVD. I end up with a poor quality 300 ish MB file. The complete log is follows but the thing that stikes me are the lines...

6:09:23: Started DivX5-First Pass: C:\dvd\jpark3.avs
9:11:40: Finished DivX5-First Pass. Duration: 3 hours, 2 minutes, 16 seconds.
9:11:40: Trying to open Log-file.
9:11:40: Error: Could not open C:\dvd\jpark3_1.log
9:11:40: Error: Could not count encoded Frames.

also some parts of the log refer to Divx4, should be Divx5 right?

I have got this result on every try so far so I have repeatability on my side if nothing else.

thanks

A search (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?s=) would have produced the thread 'Can't Open Log file in GKnot' (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40064)

This was a quite common problem a while ago.

The "DivX4" is a comment in the log that was not updated when theWef updated the program to DivX 5. You may safely ignore it.

The log file "C:\dvd\jpark3_1.log" that cannot be opened is the frame-by-frame analysis produced by the first pass and used by the second.

Does this file exist? Can you open it? How big is it?

There can be several reasons for not producing a log file...
DivX 5 codec not installed or not installed properly.

You can check this by using the Video....Compression command in VirtualDub. If DivX 5 is in the list of codecs, then it is installed properly.

AviSynth script (.avs file) has an error, or AviSynth not installed.

You can check this by attempting to open your .avs file in VirtualDub or in your favorite AVI player. If you get video, then the script is working. If there is an error in the script, you will get a message telling you which line is in error. If you don't have AviSynth installed, you won't be able to open the script.

Running out of disk space.

Heat problems -- often overclocking -- that cause CPU instability.
I can't be sure, of course, but I'm betting on case #1. Prior to Gknot 0.27 -- and you are at 0.26 -- many people installed tools in the wrong order. Gknot 0.26.1 and prior releases included DivX 4, and if you installed the complete Gknot after installing DivX 5, you would overlay DivX 5 files with DivX 4 ones, causing this sort of problem.

Your first pass ran for 3 hours -- which leads me to believe your problem isn't case #2, since it seemed to find video to examine.

Welcome to the Forum-

Might as well make it a triple whammy. :) I also recommend getting rid of DivX4 and installing GKnot 0.27, both the RipPack and the SystemPack. In addition, what's this:

Resolution: 688 x 378

You've been fooling around with the W and H Moduls. I recommend resetting them to their default 32 and 16 values. If you wonder why, then make your way through This (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42708).
