ATI AIW vs MSI @nywhere

I'm thinkin about gettin a new video cap card, I'm wanting to spend around $200, but i know the MSI @nywhere is cheap and good, so if you guys want to offer suggestions Im all ears. I appreciate it.

I'm curious about the card as well. I've never had anything other than an all-in-wonder, and I'm curious as to what else is out there, which is why I think I'm going to try a different company instead of getting a radeon 8500 or later model. The tv@anywhere is an add-on card though right? so it would require a primary card. If they made a combined agp card for capture I would check that out.

WIth this card, what would concern me is that it is a pci card. I've never tried a pci capture card as opposed to an agp one. Agp is a port (accelerated graphics port) as opposed to a pci bus, which is shared among cards, so the pci card would share a lesser amount of bandwidth than agp with other devices. Since I have on-board sound then sound card wouldn't be an issue unless it uses the pci bus which I don't think it does, but I'm thinking it might be one if using this card with a pci sound card.

Also, I noticed the max size is 640x480 I think, as opposed to say an all-in-wonder radeon 7500 which has I think 740x576 as maximum resolution. Not that you really need to capture at this size.

I'm not sure if the MSI card can caputure in huffyuv in virtual dub. If you know different please let me know.

looks like I'll probably be gettin a AIW 7500 or AIW 8500DV as i get a nice discount for working at best buy. I'm a big fan of the breakout box. :)

Ok, check these samples...

AIW samples are by CJV and the MSI's are by me, I am sure you will be pleasently surprised. MSI captures at HUFF in iuVCR upto 768x576. VirtualDub is too old, it only works under VFW which is outdated. I suggest that you get the MSI and iuVCR (right click the capture format button for the right options).

that is most impressive, i believe you have linked me to that before. Mighty proud of it? heeh i would be. I would like to see what someone can also do with any of the AIW's. My roommate doesn't know that much about computers, but has a 7500 AIW and watches tv with it, and it gets a really good picture, and im sure if i had it, and tweaked it up a bit, it would look fantastic.

i just watched that clip on my tv, via my xbox, and it looks amazing! Just curious what was the original file size? And if anyone wants to know about using their xbox as a media center, let me know!

THe clips look interesting, but how about a txt file in there or something explaining what they are? Some of us can't really download them all just to see what they are..

Also, how about putting the codec in there at least (if there is no text file for them). I downloaded one and couldn't even play it, and I'm not intalling xvid just to play back that sample:)

The MSI (6) is captured the same way as with my Ti4200 (but with the different card). AIWs are as reported.

I've read that the MSI TV @nywhere only supports mono audio for its TV tuner. Is this correct?

For NTSC, this is correct.
