(s)vcd onto DVD-R??

I was wondering if I were to encode a movie using the vcd format instead of the divx .avi would I still be able to make a huge (s)vcd and put it onto a dvd-r disc without having to buy a dvd-writer and instead of putting each movie onto two or three discs inorder to make it decent quality?? Cuz you can buy bulk dvd-r's for dirt cheap and if that works I'd rather just do that than go out and spend the money on a writer if I don't have to?? or is there a special burning process that goes into a dvd-writer that a normal cd-writer doesn't have?? let me know... thanks ppl.

i have never once though of that possibility; but i doubt it (unless someone made a new type of cd-burner), cause i'm sure someone in this forum would have said so, if it was possible.

DVD has a diff. wave length as CD-R/CD-RW. Other optical elements must be used.
The producer of DVD-Burner must pay the licens fee to SONY/Toshiba 10 times as high as that for CD-Burner.
It's not meaningful to make such fantasy.

VCD video is valid for DVD as is. You have to convert the audio to 48 KHz from 44 KHz. Tools such as BeSweet can do this conversion for you, but you should expect some slight audio degredation in this conversion. You may or may not notice it. I don't recommend that you burn VCD format to DVD-R as DVD players do media detection and if they see a DVD disc, they will assume that it has DVD format on it and never check for VCD format. http://www.vcdhelp.com has a guide on doing VCD to DVD conversion.
In summary - yes, it is possible to burn your VCDs to DVD-R, but you should burn them in DVD format for best results.

so your saying that I can go out and buy a DVD-R/W (RW just for trial) and reformat my movies from DivX to SVCD(which i am doing already with TMPGEnc) and then put the DVD-R/W into my REGULAR CD-R/W and it will burn it onto it and I will have an SVCD the size of something like 4.5GB's? Cuz I followed the guide that you posted for me and foudn what I was looking for but I'm not sure if I just go into Nero and choose SVCD NTSC and then insert my DVD-R/W and hit burn and it should work in my DVD Player... BTW I've got a JVC XV-S502SL

i think jshumate didn't quite understand your question; no you can't burn a dvd-r/w on a regular cd-burner (unless someone didn't make a new type of cd-burner).

i think what he meant to say was:

you can burn (s)vcd on a dvd using a dvd-burner.

thanks jorel... I don't know what the deal is how no one that replied knew anything about KVCD and that website or similar stuff but the ppl on there that I've talked to are proclaimed that this method is flawless. anyways thanks again man... gonna try and see if this sheit works..

for me is very good,and i use the dvd2svcd program to make my kvcds.
i get 142 minutes in 1 cdr 700mb with good quality and
120 minutes (480x480 mpeg1) with fantastic image!;)

editing:
i don't have a dvd burner,i only have cdr-w but
some people there got the results that you want and more.

I own an ati aiw capture card. I can record directly to vcd mpg format but I read that it needs 48khz audio. What if I capture directly to 48khz using mmc edit capture profile?
