Hi,

I just obtained a copy of *some film* and wanted to make a 2disc divx rip.

However I'm not sure what to choose regarding sound. DVD decrypter showed the audio stream as 6ch which I assume means 6 channel, but when i used DVD2AVI and demuxed the track I got the following file:

LOTR AC3 T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY -83ms.ac3

Is it pointless me transcoding the ac3 to ~256kbit/sec when its only 2 channel anyway? Should I just use a stereo CBR mp3?

Thanx
Robin

Obviously an illegal copy, as the movie will not be out until August....

I would encode to VBR MP3 @ 192kbps. 3 hours onto 2 CDs with 448kbps AC3 is not going to work out real well.

hehe ... hmmm well lets ignore that...

Anyway, I think you misunderstood me lol...

I did mention reducing the AC3 in quality to 256kbit/sec....

.. and would that be in anyway better than a CBR mp3 at 256kbit/sec (ESPECIALLY since its only a 2 channel AC3, not 5.1)

???????!!

look at the other tracks on the dvd, I am sure there is a 2channel track

3/2 means 6 channels

read the text file the dvd ripper you used made, it will list all the tracks in it.

here is what my fight club dvd says

0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 67 / PTS: 00:00:00.234 / Delay: 29ms
0x81 - Audio - AC3 / 6ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 68 / PTS: 00:00:00.234 / Delay: 29ms
0x82 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / Français / LBA: 73 / PTS: 00:00:00.234 / Delay: 29ms
0x83 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 75 / PTS: 00:00:00.234 / Delay: 29ms
0x84 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 76 / PTS: 00:00:00.234 / Delay: 29ms
0x85 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 77 / PTS: 00:00:00.234 / Delay: 29ms

like SiXXGuNNZ says: 3_2 means 6 channels

If you're gonna make a 2 cd rip of this 3hr source, you better downmix the AC3 to MP3 (128/192 kb).
If you use the surround2 option when transcoding, the result will be dolby prologicII compatible and sound realy nice on an DD amp.

(TW: LOTR of course does better on 3 cd's with orig. 3_2 AC3!)

Duh sorry me being stupid :(

Thanx for your advice :)

What would be the result if I just used 'surround' when transcoding? (I dont have a DD amp) ....
