Yes, I am sure this topic has been rehashed more times than anyone cares to check, but I'd like to bring it up again.
I am looking for some suggestions to (improve) my daily capture routine.
It goes like this:
In the morning every day, I use my personally hacked copy of amcap.exe with added "start recording at xx:xx" functionality to start recording at 11:00. I start amcap, set capture file, set video capture format to 720x480, YUY2, 29.97fps. The btwincap (drivers I use) dialog by default defaults to 320x240 RGB32, 30fps, which means each time I have to change it back to the settings above. It also defaults to video source as "TV Tuner", so I gotta change it back to S-Video. Anyhow, that done, I enter capture time as 11:00 and go to work. My video compression is set to huffyyuv with "fastest" compression setting. Audio is 48khz uncompressed.
When I return, I find the amcap window informing me it captured 1800 seconds of video (i set limit in the capture menu), usually no or like 1-2 dropped frames.
The video file at that point is around 15Gb or so, which I don't mind, as long as it's the same large capture file I created when I last formatted my capture partition and its near the beginning of the drive, so its all good.
"Master stream" during capture is set to audio.
Resulting video file usually has framerates in the range of 29.96-29.98 fps, with virtualdub's "frame rate" menu suggesting to make framerate equal to audio which would result in something like 29.94 fps. I capture 30 minutes at a time, but when I last tried to capture a couple hours of video, there's an obvious audio desync going on.
Now, after all this explanation, I guess I'll get to the point of what i'm trying to figure out.
I need a capture program which:
a) has recording schedule (just something I set in the morning is fine - for one-time recording)
b) can record in the codec of my choice (huffy in this case)
c) directshow based (unless there's a damn good reason why it should be vfw based)
d) has proper audio/video sync (and if I say I want to capture 29.97 fps I expect the final video to be that exact framerate, and match audio length to the frame)
e) does not re-create the capture file, but instead reuse the same one without truncating/recreating it. I want to use the same near-the-beginning-of-partition capture file to make it faster to process.
f) allows me to save my usual capture settings (720x480@29.97fps,48k)
the solution I am using now (hacked amcap) works fine, except for the framerate/audio sync issue, which I've been largely ignoring because of only 30 minute captures. but if I ever plan to capture any more than that, things might get ugly.
