Will be ever possible to crop a movie without re encode?

i mean just take off all references to cropped parts,
and ,of course, rewrite the motion vectors.

like extract a small frame from a bigger one.

You can crop by playback - with ffdshow :p

oh yeah, on play...

but this doesnt reduce file size.

but i think that a more fantasious programmer could find out a way...

Unless that fantastic programmer can rewrite the process of video compression... I doubt this will happen any time soon.
