hi,
last week i got a new soundcard. it's a cheap one with c-media CMI8738 (z-cyber)!
the sound is playing very fine (better like my old Xlerate Pro).
but in captured videos (recorded with my pctv pro and VirtualDub or PCTV Vision) the audio is so bad (crackling, noisy, distortions) i can't hear longer than 10sec without 'ear-ache'!
tried the newest drivers, tried reinstalling win2k, tried an other pci-slot, tried reinstalling pctv pro, even tried the CD-In!
anyone knows the problem? or a solution?
-thx

hello?
is the reason that I take the internal analouge Aux In?
should I try it with the external Line In?
-cheers

Hi,quite complicated problem you have there, pretty much every computer part can cause that kind of distortion, but on the other hand your problem might be fixed purely on a drivers level. Please post your full hardware specs including installed A/V drivers version, I'll do my best to dig some info for you.
Regards.

thx, this would be very kind!
well, earlier this day i've tried the external Line In and no change :(.
the sound is pretty good when i watch telly on PC!
only the captured Audio is bad (have a mp3 from that but no webspace)
=> the input-part of the card is damaged?
my specs: (haven't thought that would be neccessary)
Athlon 800 on Soltek SL75-DRV5 (Via KT333) with 256MB Micron DDR, Hercules 4500 (KyroII), Pinnacle PCTV Pro, the Z-Cyber Nightingale Pro 6, seagate and fujitsu as Harddrives, an LG as DVD and an LG as CD-RW (have tried it without).
it's a fresh install of win2k sp3, no Via 4in1 drivers, newest KyroII drivers (v16.055), the v4.02 pinnacle-software (have tried it with 5.1, too), newest wdm-drivers for the Nightingale (tried it with windows standard drivers, too).
the whole capture-thing is working good with my old Xlerate Pro!

I had some other type of problems with my noname CMI8738. It was solved when using the OEM installer that came with the card (I think driver version 632). There was also a posting some time ago: spdif problems were solved by using older driver.
Try it, one never knows ...

i don't even use spdif but anyway i'll try it this evening.
just found the old drivers v0632 :)!
(the Installer-CD has version 1.79)
edit:
:( no change!

Hi,I've managed to find something interesting that might fix your audio cap problem.
Download and install this PCI LATENCY PATCH. (http://www.redzone.co.il/vad/bin/vlatency_v019.zip)
(read the faq inside the zip,and visit author's web site (http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/)
if you need any additional info) We'll try something diff later if this one will fail.

thx for the help.
had problems with PCI-Latency with my old board but this time the patch doesn't help!
have tried to rip a CD (not with spdif) and no probs. is this a sign that the card isn't defect?

No,AFAIK your audio card isn't used as a pass through device when
you're ripping audio tracks of the disk.So I wouldn't
take it as an indication, anyway I can see that you've already
tried almost everything Without success, so as you last attempt
to fix this pb(just before you throwing this card through a window :))
I'd suggest you To try the following Procedure.
1.Remove every pc cards you might have installed on your mobo (like modem, net,TV,radio cards etc>)
Move your audio card to the first PCI slot on your mobo(close to the AGP)
2. Flash your mobo with the latest bios (http://www.soltekusa.com/download/viewcategory.php?downloadcategory=SL-75DRV5-C%20Kit) available(often some serious bug fixes isn't listed)
3. D/L and Install latest drivers (http://www.zoltrix.com/PUBLIC2/sound/NG180_WDM.zip) for your audio card(DUNO what ver you're using)
4. D/L and install VIA's Hyperion 4in1 Drivers (http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1/VIAHyperion4in1445v.exe) (you seem to dislike these drivers why?)
5. As soon as you're done, cap some audio preferably through SPDIF in.
That's pretty much all I can suggest, try it and tell us later what happening.
Regards.

if it makes you feel any better, i have a CMI8738 built into my mobo, and when i try to capture music videos (Radeon 64DDR VIVO) i get gradually out of sync audio, and it doesnt sound too good either.
